Between Tuesday and Saturday, T-Mobile went from offering the G1 Android phone to an apology that they're "temporarily unavailable."

The error message comes up because of too many hits at the same time, not because they've run out of phones.

I'm still stuck in neutral between buying one and just getting a new phone, albeit plain-jane variety. Do I really want to spend an extra $25/month? Maybe. Maybe not. I've got plenty of time to figure it all out.

This article is just plain wrong. Mine is on the way.

Bottom line is that Google has decided to bank on T-Mobile and that is good enough for me. Yes, there are many more Android phones on the horizon, but their existence and success are greatly contingent on the reception the G1, which I feel Google, T-Mobile and HTC understand and will thus make it their priority to deliver quality, compatibility, user friendliness, versatility and power. I am sure that the people at Google talked to the people at T-Mobile about these priorities and their 3G launching and upgrading etc. are no coincidence. These changes will vastly improve the T-M experience, and I think that this union has a great chance to succeed. Plus, I love idea of Android so much I have started programming. This is, effectively, Google's cashing in on the personal cred that I have given them, so lets see if they will double up or cash out with the G1.

Oh and by the way, CNet: great sign-up tactic when I clicked the comment box. That took all of 12 seconds and was perfectly seamless. Huzzah.

I just ordered mine through the Tmobile website. The comments around the lack of memory on this phone are plane short sighted. Google and Tmobile are looking up to the clouds in the future for files/songs or anything else you need to access. Think beyond the hardware on the phone and it's all about the platform stupid. Mix in the open source component and Google is going to knock Apple on it's a**.
