Will Android overtake Windows Mobile, Symbian, Apple or Palm? Probably not (well, maybe Palm). But I don't think most of the people who would potentially buy an Android device, such as myself, care. I know I just want a device with good interface design that I can tailor to how I would use it. I think HTC has good devices with plenty of features, T-Mobile is more liberal in how people use their 3G network (5G limit, tether if you want) as long as an app doesn't have the potential to bring it down, and Google, who wants to expand their presence into our daily lives, will be supportive of developers.
An open platform means a sea change in s/w development. The same detractors of Eclipse are now looking for work using it, and every IDE other than Microsoft's has been shoved to one side. Google had their thinking caps on, and I suppose we'll see how it plays out. I'm betting I'm right, as I'll be pre-ordering assuming it has GPS.

(16 Comments)We do not know how people are going to react to the android platform. So I say it would be immature to speculate too precisely as to how successful android will do. Obviously Google has done a lot of hard work to get this out there among the cell phone manufacturers and many of them have signed on to it. They seem to think it will be make them a profit, and that's good enough to for me think that it won't be a massive ball of failure. What I do know is that Apple fans will slander it and android fans will praise it. Keep it up, I find it humorous. It makes me giggle.
