How will they deal with namespace collisions?

I guess they could use something like ftpi2://mit.edu or ftpnlr://mit.edu but my guess is that they will do something like ftp://mit.edu.i2 or ftp://mit.edu.nlr

Internet2 or Albience Network is not an isolated parallel infrastructure. It is just a consortium that is developing high-speed interconnect between several universities. For more information see...

Internet2 already uses ipv6 which frees up more unallocated ip addresses to prevent namespace collisions. Just like using area codes to create more new phone numbers.
