Social Networking

I'm really not understanding why we can't just put down the device and invite our neighbor over for coffee.

Why not both?

We can put down the device and invite our neghbor over for coffee, but why does one have to be exclusive of the other.
I love the idea of there being a neighborhood bulletin board. I have a lot of elderly neighbors that I'd help lend some muscle to for that quick furniture move. It's not likely that they'd invite me over for coffee often as our interests are, well, disparate at best. But I'd be happy to help them out.
We should look to build community in any way we can. If that's talking over coffee great. If that can be enhanced with a computer network, even better.
Yes, we're over 27 and we don't text message

Yes, that's right, we're over 27. We don't txt 2 U.
We're 'OLD,' as this idiot says.
But damn if reading stuff like this doesn't make me feel smarter.

You are so right !

Check out http://www.schoolparentnet.com/ - its a social network for parents, teachers and administrators. The site leverages the school system to create a secure online environment and enables families to make/strengthen connections around real world communities - their local schools and other interest groups such as soccer clubs, mothers clubs, etc

...in the wings as they watch and learn from the mistakes the mentioned social networking sites are going thru before slaughtering them all when they merge their Orkut, Blogspot, GTalk, GMail, Google Video Player, etc services into the only comprehensive s/n site that aggressively supports open source software in addn to Microsoft software. Just a guess.:)

Hi Paul,

In your article from a few weeks back titled "Social Networking For All", you mentioned the concept "Neighborhood Social Networking". My wife and I just launched a company this week that is a lot like what you predicted in the story. We've been working on this for the past nine months and have finally launched.

I saw your article and obviously it really stuck out to us. The site is a place where families can create profiles of themselves and be matched up with similar families in their local communities. It's sort of a Match.com for families, which is what the TechCrunch article called it.

Anyway, check it out and let me know if you would like a promo code to get in and dig around some. Thanks and take care.
