Hash and distribute the files also
by swwg69 October 6, 2004 5:19 AM PDT
They are also working on a hash and distribution of he files scheme. You then allocate some space to the network, you get some random hashed files in that space. You do not know what files you are sharing. You are just a carrier. Nobody tracks who uploads a song to the network. Nobody can track all the places that parts of the song are stored. You keep your personal files separate.

No good

I would never participate in a network where I was sharing something unknown - this could lead to me sharing unacceptable data such as types of pron or violence for example that I am opposed to.

Using such a network is just asking to get sued by the RIAA or other copyright holders.

There is no doubt there is a benefit to be gained from utilizing opt-in hard drive space on users computers to make content more available. NEOnet has the tools to do this more efficiently than any other player - rest assured it is being explored.

Hash? Sounds Like Bit Torrents
by October 6, 2004 7:40 AM PDT
The "hashing" of files sounds a lot like Bit Torrents which, from what I know, does the same thing. Am I incorrect about that?

hash means a lot of things
by Risky October 7, 2004 4:29 PM PDT
Most software uses hashes. Entire programming languages are built on hash lookups (Python). File sharing clients use hashes to authenticate file data, address data, users, metadata, you name it. BitTorrent is not a DHT, it is a tracker based p2p download system, and doesn't even have a file search component.

First Apologize for Spyware

This software has been used to infect millions of machines worldwide. Why is this company still not declared a criminal organization? I am not so sure any technological advance by these dark souls is welcome in this world.

by Johnny Mnemonic October 10, 2004 11:22 PM PDT
It connects to 4 p2p networks:
edonkey, gnutella, gnutella2, and bittorrent

Best client available and it's GPL'd:
