Google Source Computing
by anthonycea September 23, 2004 2:46 PM PDT
Open source, no, its Google source computing that M$ needs to worry about.

Larry and Sergey are forcing change in the industry and for that they must be given credit.

The Google OS is good for all of us as it will force competitive development that will benefit all computer users.

Another Netscape flameout?
by rexworld September 23, 2004 5:51 PM PDT
Yeah but didn't we hear much the same thing about how Netscape's browser was going to be the perfect thin client, it was gonna change the landscape and make the desktop OS a meaningless commodity? Turns out you still need desktop horsepower and desktop apps for some things (i.e., ripping or burning a CD). Stuff you couldn't do with the Netscape browser.

Yes there's opportunity for some applications to live in the network space, a la Sun's old vision of "the network is the computer". I definitely love GMail, for example, because I can retrieve my mail and files from anywhere.

But in the end these network apps won't replace the local desktop, they will be an adjunct to the desktop.

Firefox and Mozilla
by April 3, 2005 9:48 PM PDT
I have changed from IE to Firefox and Mozilla and love it. It is so refreshingly new and very user-friendly - what a change from IE. I will never go back to that idiot giant who does not care if anyone likes it or not. Firefox really gives you control over what you want and what you see. I am going to tell everyone I know about it.
