I wonder if Microsoft and Realplayer might not become one in the same in the future. I would not be surprised if MS buys out Real Networks after they establish a alternative to Apple and I-Tunes. The deal they struck almost assures that Real will be Apple's biggest competition in the next year or so.

Real's own Rhapsody uses Windows Media Player
by Don Key October 13, 2005 3:01 PM PDT
Real sued MS over windows media player but before the lawsuit was even filed, Rhapsody was using the WMP and IE... shoot, they won't work without them. If MS was so evil at the time that they had to sue them, why did they continue to use MS's own products in their software/

Again, Rhapsody cannot be used if WMP is not installed. This is a Real product and has been that way since the day it came out.

What choice did they have?

Isn't Rhapsody intended to be used with their online music store to purchase music, and that music is intended to be playable on portable music players? As such, what choice did they have? The only audio format that provides DRM and is supported by all the media players out there (other than the iPod) is Windows Media Audio.

Real = Garbage
by October 14, 2005 6:53 AM PDT
as said in other posts, Real Networks never really had it in them to beat out WMP, by hiding the free download link, and not being bundled with any other OS, it was dead in the water. espcially when it started the advertising campaign on the free version, and spyware laden download.

But for music i perfer either WMP, or WinAmp. but i have yet to find a Multi-Media player that is free that you dont have to download codecs for them all the time.

MS = pain
Real = pain and garbage

I just hope that MS and Real dont start comparing and sharing ideas for their media players, it will make life hell for all of us, that run Microsoft Programs and OS's

Winamp

Winamp is my favorite media player although WMP seems to be more fluid on XP (surprised? no.)

I've always hated, despised, and uninstalled at every turn any Real product. Real is garbage, i couldn't agree more

Get real. They use Coldfusion! Anything using that dog won't last. I can't even go to their site with Mozilla and have to use IE.

Good luck
