Comments on: Federal buildings become Real ID zones

Everyone from D.C. tourists to federal jurors could be affected by stipulation that noncompliant driver's licenses can't be used to access "federal facilities."

We Can't Take This Laying Down
by tcj5002 February 6, 2008 8:09 AM PST
Perhaps we should try getting our States to withold our Federal taxes until they "get-a-clue"?

If GWB has proved nothing else during his tenure, he has proven himself to be a "neo-con nut job". He is definitely, a far right-wing, authoritarian, extremist bordering on fascism.

Federal Crime
by wdukeman February 6, 2008 8:54 AM PST
Does this mean if someone commits a federal crime, they can't take him to federal court or put him in federal prison. That would be funny. Sorry we will have to let you go because you don't have your nazi papers.

new cards for veterans?
by dredgerie February 6, 2008 8:57 AM PST
So, since I am a veteran, issued an ID by the VA to enter their
buildings, to use their services, and the VA being part of the Federal
Government, does that mean that my VA card is Real-ID
compliant?

VA card

Your VA card should be fine. But if you're in the hospital, visitors without Real ID compliant licenses may not be able to enter to visit you.
september 11's legacy
by tremorfireheart February 6, 2008 9:59 AM PST
On the day and shortly there after following 9/11 we rose as one nation to help those who had been in the towers and the others places struck. Our service men and women rescued them from the rubble and many of us gave donations of money, time, food and blood.
We rose in defiance of fear and tracked osama back to israel and dealt with him. Although he may very well be at large or dead in one of caves in the hills, The most disturbing part is that he may have actually won. That defiance of fear of osama and his terrorism, after the momentary urgency and anger has flashed by, has corroded away.
The FBI is suppose to investigate any violation of federal criminal laws and also protect the United States from foreign intelligence and terrorist activities. The National Guard is meant to be defending the nation, providing the states with units trained to protect life and property. Now with these two long running groups why do we need to form a new agency. We gave into fear and formed the homeland security whose mission is "served to mobilize and organize our nation to secure the homeland from terrorist attacks."(1) does not this task fall within the realms of the FBI and National Guard? Creating the unnescessary to shield us once again, does wearing another plastic glove over the first do us any good?

also in this time of fear we launched an attack on iraq as well in 2002. The reasons being we were afraid that hussein was building weapons of mass destruction and that he had connections to al-qaeda. to this date no evidence of them building new wmd since the 91 ban has been found(2). Also the relations between hussein an al-qaeda were unfounded and contains about as much substance as that of the easter bunny.(3) Just because people keep telling you he really hides all those eggs doesn't mean you should believe them.

it has been six years and some months since the attacks. A memorial has not been completed yet. one was not even started until about 5 years after the fact. Have we not failed those that gave their lives that day?

we use to be able travel inside the country with out having to provide our passports to fly. Why are we so afraid that we must treat other states as foreign countires? next they will be asking for duration of visit and buisiness or pleasure. Do we really want to turn into ww2 germany?

Now we are making people into first and second class citizens based on the real id acts. Allowing access to federal buildings and possibly our god given right to vote to only those with this new id. If the vote takes place in a federal building then we can be denied entry. The national goverment is burdening our states with the cost to run this program. If you are barred from the courts for not having a real id, you may very well be arrested for inattendance. This all for the sake of protecting us against terrorism.

what kind of legacy are we leaving to mar the passage of the twin towers and the others that day? What kind of america are we passing unto our children? On every piece of currency we carry it does not say in fear we trust. It says in god we trust and those who truly believe have no fear of the crashing waves and step out of the boat.

"Dead Beat Dads" & Passports
by Labiator February 6, 2008 10:11 AM PST
Supposedly, I am a dead-beat dad since I was accused of fathering a kid 17 years ago and hit with $30k in arrears. I can't get a passport because of this. How will i access any federal building to defend myself in this inane mess?

Geez, talking about mistreatment of citizens
by paulej February 6, 2008 5:16 PM PST
You do not have the freedom to travel? And, you might not even have the freedom to enter a build that your tax dollars help pay for?

While this is way off topic, I'm really curious as to how somebody can make this claim 17 years after the fact and demand such a huge sum of money. It does not sound as though you tried to dodge any responsibility.

To share a similarly insane story... I have a brother whose ex-wife collected child support in one state, while also collecting welfare in another state. After collecting about $5000 or so in welfare, her state decided to withold money from my brother's federal income tax return to cover the cost of welfare! The state said it was his obligation to pay for that, in spite of the fact that he was not a resident of the state and he was (and had been) paying child support in his home state.

The child support laws are completely screwed up.
To Abolish the Federal Reserve
by novelator February 7, 2008 9:27 AM PST
Without a doubt we need to abolish the Federal Reserve. And although I agree with the tax protesters in this country that there is no law requiring US citizens living and working in the US to pay taxes, I also know that regular people fear the gestapo IRS. And without the common man and woman, this revolution will not succeed.

To bring down the Federal Reserve, we only need to do two things, neither of which involves the IRS. We can deal with them later.

One is we all write a letter to our senators and representatives telling them that if they do not get off their ***** and abolish the Federal Reserve, we're all going to quit paying our credit cards at some date in the near future. Then we pick a date and do it.

Credit cards are unsecured debt, meaning you put up no collateral to borrow the money. And this is money the banks borrow from the tyrannical Federal Reserve at a maximum of six percent interest. Max. It doesn't mean that the banks currently pay that much interest on the money they borrow, it just means that's the cap. When was the last time you paid six percent interest on any sort of credit card? When the dollars were loosely flowing in the last couple of years, you might've gotten a house loan for less, a little less, but you can bet the bank loaning you the money paid half what you're paying, if that. So think about those credit cards, the interest you pay, and what might happen to these banks, and the economies of the nation and the world, if enough of us decided not to pay those bills until Congress abolishes the Federal Reserve, and starts complying with the Constitution and working for us again instead of a group of bankers trying to take over not only our country, but the world.

Let's write our senators and representatives, inform them that their employers, we the People, are not paying another credit card payment until they abolish the Federal Reserve. And also, we will not pay one penny in late fees or interest on our current balances while we wait for our Congress to actually do something for us for a change and get this job done.

You see, there is almost no risk to the common man and woman in protesting in this manner, which will make easier to increase support for this revolution. The worst thing that can happen is a bad credit rating, and maybe wages garnished, but only maybe. It costs the banks a pretty penny to send out that paperwork to the employer each month and a person can cost the banks even more money by merely quitting the job and getting a new one, thus forcing them to track the person down. Or we can all just save the money we've been spending on these credit card payments and if they should be so stupid as to try and garnish our wages, we can simply quit for a while. The only way to effect change without bloodshed is to hit them where it hurts--in the pocketbook. Don't pay the credit cards, don't fly, don't buy new cars, drive only as little as you have to, etc. and so forth. And if Congress should try to stop this protest on behalf of the tyrants on the Federal Reserve, then we'll know it's going to get bloody, but we'll also have a whole lot more support for throwing the puppets out of Washington and starting over again.

An obvious halfwitted suggestion
by PzkwVIb February 9, 2008 3:31 PM PST
Perhaps if you actually studied economics, you would understand the effects of credit and the money multiplier. Stop listening to obvious kooks spouting this nonsense.

And, stay on topic. This article is about Reeal ID, not econo, ocs.

U.S. Marshall's Office will ignore Real ID
by jphillips1868 March 29, 2008 3:46 AM PDT
A notice was sent by the Clerk of the U.S. District Court for the District of S.C. to the federal bar on Friday (3/28) in South Carolina stating that the U.S. Marshal's office has decided that regardless of whether South Carolina complies with the Real ID Act, a South Carolina's driver's licnese will be accepted as valid ID to enter federal courthouses and buildings.

It was unclear from the notice whether this all federal buildings or just those in South Carolina. In any event, it appears that even branches of the federal government have decided to ignore Real Id.

I am glad the U.S. Marshall's office has decided to us common sense, people need access to the Courts and other federal builings.
