More Chicken Little Nonesense

Chicken Little knows the drill well. It used to be ?the sky is falling, the sky is falling?, now its ?Real ID is the end of freedom?. How exactly, does a forgery proof driver?s license hurt anyone? How exactly does proof of each person?s identity diminish liberty?

Let?s be clear. No one has the right to use a fake ID. No one has the right to steal another person?s identity. No one has a right to invade the US and live here illegally.

In real life, Real ID will enhance liberty by reducing crime, identity theft, and illegal immigration. Of course, criminals and illegal immigrants have powerful allies as this article shows.

This notion that Real ID will diminish privacy or civil liberties is a bunch of nonsense. Plenty of European countries have full-fledged national ID cards without any privacy or personal liberty problems.

The critics of Real ID should have the decency to admit that they are fronting for identity thieves, illegal aliens, and other criminals and protecting freedom isn?t the issue.

"No one has the right to steal someone's identity". You are
right, and I doubt it will ever be added to the Constitution as an amendment. In fact there are laws against stealing someone's
identity. When you consider that only a very small portion of
identity theft actually requires a persons ID, you must admit
that identity theft is obviously not the reason for the new ID.

Correct again, although I hear there is a bill in the Mexican legislature that is gaining support. There are laws in the US
that say it is a crime to enter illegally, and a crime to not report
the money you make here to the IRS, and a crime to hire people
who do these things. How's that working out for ya so far? Do
you think this new ID is going to change all that? Me either, so
add it to the list of things the new ID is NOT designed to do.

shaky ground now. The 4th amendment says;
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses,
papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and
seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but
upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and
particularly describing the place to be searched, and the
persons or things to be seized.

It is generally read to mean that the cops can't stop you and
ask for an ID unless they have a good reason. Until you do
something wrong, or give up that right, nobody can make you
tell who you are, or make you prove it. On top of that, there
are no laws against lying about your name to the general
public. Actors do it all the time. There are laws against fraud,
but if you are not trying to commit fraud, you can tell em you
are Bill Gates if you like. There is no law saying you cant write
it down, and paste a picture next to it, as long as you are not
trying to commit fraud, so yea, I'd say in general, I do have a
right to use a fake ID. I don't have a right to commit fraud. I'm
OK with that, how about you?

again! Being forced to carry, and produce ID whenever the
government decides you should, and rendering other ID's
useless so you have no choice, I think you must agree, is a BIG
reduction in liberty by way of cheating us out of the fourth
amendment.

When they can track your movement by logging every time the
magnetic code is swiped, and where it was swiped? (cashing a
check, flying from an airport, renting a car, filling a prescription, applying for a job, getting a marriage license, ). Reduction in liberty.
When they add the RIFD chip so they don't have to wait for the
card to be swiped to track you? Big Reduction in Liberty!

When they refuse to uphold your rights, because you don't have
an ID, and are not allowed into a federal courts building? Really
Big Reduction in Liberty!

When travel is restricted to those people with the proper
documents, can you really argue that it's not a diminishment of
liberty?

There are innocent Americans that have been banned from air
travel by the "No Fly List" for the last seven years, without being
told why. Now they want to extend that list to anyone without
the proper documents. How long till the rule includes busses?
Then cars? Will you argue that people who oppose it must be
fronting for criminals, or will you be fighting for your liberty
and rights with the rest of us? We're just starting early, by your
standards. We are starting late, by mine.

If someone in the government has a problem with you, a click
of the mouse removes your rights, any possibility of help from
the courts, and your ability to leave if you don't like it. Argue
all day that "it would never happen", if that's how you feel.

I think, and most of the people here seem to agree, that we
would like it better if it CAN'T happen.

The Real ID Act is obsurd, what was Bush thinking when he signed this bill into law?
This real id is prophesied in the Bible that every person would have to have an issued number to be able to function in the world. I am 100% against the "REAL ID ACT".
