How the Dems work....
by Al57 May 29, 2007 9:42 PM PDT
If it's moving, tax it; if it's still moving, regulate it; if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Let's hope the Democrats can be defeated on this. Whether you think the internet should be taxed or not, it's quite obvious that this bunch has no clue on what would work. The reality is there will be all sorts of unintended consequences if they turn on taxes.

A Republican introduced the bill
by omaryak June 3, 2007 7:45 PM PDT
It's not about taxes for the sake of taxes; it's about giving states and localities a much-needed source of revenue. I'm not a fan of taxes either, but I won't oppose a tax just because it's a tax. The one Senator's delusion about e-mail taxes aside, I think the proposals are reasonable. But I think if we impose a tax on Internet connections it should be like the Universal Service Fee imposed on landline telephones so that we can bridge the digital divide by ensuring broadband access for the poor and those living in rural areas.

Tax: Email & Spam? Tax: Viruses?
by scott15596 May 30, 2007 10:50 AM PDT
The internet is full of virus, spam, hackers, spy-ware, add-ware, and the list goes on. We already fork out millions to try and keep things safe. Now we may have to pay Tax on that stuff? No thanks, thats why there is a Post Office, Not the internet... If this happens I will shut down my account(s) cause then the Google, Yahoo, MSN, eBay, Half.com and etc will no longer be free....

These people needs prayer.....

The Law of Natural Selection sez:
by TheOctopus May 31, 2007 5:22 AM PDT
The parasite ALWAYS kills the host. It will be no different here. The bloodsucking local, state and federal governments have been extracting huge sums from the taxpayers since the system began. Check your state or local CAFR (it's free for the asking - or used to be) and see the balance sheet. Then imagine your local gov whines that they don't have enough bucks. They are literally awash in cash.

Government is INEFFECIENT
by mikesims10670 June 4, 2007 8:04 AM PDT
Lets face it people ... if the Dems and Repubs would spend more time learning how to be more effecient, they would find money in places they never knew they had ... instead of levying more taxes on the people, why shouldn't we require them to spend even 10% of their time looking into ways to spend LESS money on the services they provide now?

The public education system is just one example of how one peice of legislation piled on another creates a completely ineffecient and fiscally irresponsible system.

Private enterprise has a profit motive to ensure effeciency ... why can't we require similar or even better fiscal performance from our government?

Internet taxes

We will just surf to find prices, then we will buy
locally and thwart those taxes. Legislators are SUCH IDIOTS !!!

Sure, we will pay local taxes, but we already do that. Einsteins abound in the government !

Isn't it interesting that a Democrat Congress has been elected, and now we're talking about taxing the Internet. You just gotta love these guys.

Of course, you have to love the public that voted for these clowns in the first place!

Access taxes

Aren't we already taxed for our phone lines? DSL is running on the same lines as standard telephones. Any DSL access tax would be double dipping.

Whining on a forum is not going to change anything. Action has to be taken to avoid this evil. Democrats will be taxing your every breath (inhale & exhale) before long if we do not take action.

More taxes - Are you kidding me!!!!
by scennimo June 5, 2007 1:03 PM PDT
First the local goverments need to stop hiring there friends and family and then make up positions for them. My town has to be one of the most corrupt in the country when it come to doing this. Then when it comes time to vote, guess what, they are afraid to vote against regulars for fear of loosing their job. What is the federal goverment doing about this. I forgot, they are doing the same.

Blame the Republicans
by as901 June 6, 2007 4:41 AM PDT
Let's be honest. The GOP gave the rich the largest tax cuts in the history of the USA. Now the government is at war, yet Bush again asks for the rich to pay even less taxes while our young working class pay with their money and their lives. Net taxes will be just the start unless we make the rich pay their fair share. Why is anyone shocked that the losses will be made up for by the working class? The GOP that would bill a veteran with no arms for his food while in the hospital would do anything, no matter how unfair. Trust me. We cannot fund this war while giving huge tax cuts to the rich without bankrupting the government. Net taxes for the working class will help make up for the tax cuts for the war profiteers saving billions while making money off this war.

Tell you what!!!

There is an old saying which fits you perfectly and it goes like this-"If a person isn't a liberal by the time he/she is 30 then he/she has no heart." BUT "If a person isn't a conservative by the time he/she is 40 then he/she has no brain." I would bet my last tax exemp dollar sir/madam you are between 20 and 40 and if you are over 40 then when you pillow your head at night thank whatever higher power, if any, you believe in, that brave veteran with no arms and paying for his food, had the intestinal fortitude to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect the likes of you.
Tax Increase-Sure Why Not?
by bigonegotaway June 13, 2007 3:09 PM PDT
Yup, that is just what we need to continue the rise in the markets, Taxes-Taxes-and more Taxes.
I for one just can't wait to pay more tax. In fact I think I'll just double whatever the "Donkeys" propose-voluntairly because I sure do think the government knows how to spend my money more wisely than I do. After all, if I had the money to spend they want to take away from me in tax I'd just waste it on trivial items such as food, clothing, utilites and gas to get back and forth to work to earn more money which is taxed and taxed and taxed. Hooray for the Clintons and Kennedy's and Carters and, and, and, yes, all those donkeys or are they jackasses?

Net taxes could arrive by this fall
by 44lefty June 14, 2007 12:58 AM PDT
Gee. I guess they can't steal fast enough.

the solution is to send everything via snail mail. the Post Office can barely handle what they've got, now. Putting net traffic back into the system should be real interesting.

Net Taxes Coulg Arrive by this Fall
by mahva7 June 25, 2007 1:11 PM PDT
I'm not at all surprised that our weak Congress didn't have the guts to place a deadline on the Iraq spending bill and then turn around and try and get more money from us.

I'm really disappointed that politicians can't surprise me and that their appalling behavior no longer shocks.

At this point, the only hope is a nuclear bomb and Darwin's survival of the fittest. I'm tired of spinning the toilet drain and hanging on to nothing.

We are too far gone and don't really have anyone with sense in the upcoming generations who'll have the intelligence or ability to make true change for the better.

So, tax away, Congress. We regular folks don't want our hard-earned money to spend on our families, anyway.
