If this bill passes, I assure you that anyone who voted for it or was involved in any way with passing it will never recieve another vote from me. We should be working to enhance our freedoms in the electronic age, not erode them further. We've already lost so much...
What we should do is put cameras on all our politicians and law enforcement officers 24/7. All their emails, phone calls, etc. should be recorded and a matter of public record. No more big money bribes, no more abuse of power by police. (Yes, yes, I know they're not all bad apples but in those positions of power it doesn't take many bad apples to ruin the whole bunch. And, yes, I realize some of it would have to be classified.)
There has to be a way to protect our children without giving up our freedoms. Let's start by putting criminals who hurt children away for life. No chance of release. If you prey on the weak (children, elderly, etc.) you don't deserve to participate in our society.
and illegal aliens will vote multiple times on your behalf, to ensure
that the candidate you hate gets in.
other crimes cited in this article. I work at a web host+ISP, and
unless the US government is going to pay our MASSIVE expense for
retaining (illegaly) that much data then they can get lost. They
don't even require such broad retention of phone records!!!! Thats
what this amounts to! Keeping a log of all faxes and phone
conversations.
If I, as a private citizen, regularly received 1st class mail through the U.S. Postal service, the Government has no record of my correspondence or its content. And I could legally destroy my letters after reading them.
So tell me why the government needs more access to ISP records than it regularly has over the postal correspondence. There are already laws in place to force the ISPs to hold records for those under investigation, just as Postal Inspectors regularly do if supplied a valid subpoena. One again, the government is eroding your freedom of speech and association.
For no federal law or international treaty signed by his illustrious superior predecessors shall stand in his way, as he stumbles and fumbles through life, as a self appointed emperor!
One cannot expect much less from the control freaks, that surround the man!

retards.
this goes after the little guy.
An example of required uses... any Wall Street info exchanged for any reason would need to be encrypted to prevent insider info from leaking.
examples of illegal uses: terrorists, pornographers, and probably even assassins.
Even for a small ISP they would needs a 3 story building of disk storage and still only be able to retain the data for a short period of time.
Not to mention the bandwitch and technology to do this dlat out DO NOT EXIST.
If the governemt has a warrant to "wire tap" a specific individual they can do that today.
If user at IP address x.x.x.x hacked into something 6 months ago and they need to know who it was, they do THAT today.
But actually archiving the data normal users are pulling down will not and will likely _never_ happen even if the do get the bill passed.
It is simply an idea that sounds good on paper to a bunch of politicians that don't have any idea what they are talking about.
That idea is just preposterous even if this were China.
PS. Vote Libertarian :)
actually stored and recorded in ways you can't even imagine.
mostly, the government still uses these crazy reel to reel tapes,
but i don't know why. maybe old mainframes haven't been
replaced since 1979 or something
but every keystroke you make, every thing you send over the
net, everything is logged somehow, somewhere.
even inside your own computer. see if you can get to the innards
of an OS, and enjoy. it's quite fun.
and the internet is the easiest why to steal data and track
people, as long as they're at a computer of some sort. how do
you think all those pedos got sued and/or jailed about a year
ago from just being in yahoo chat rooms?
and i wouldn't vote libertarian, they seem like a wolf's in
sheepskin. sorry. i read each candidate thoroughly and
determine who is the best person for the job. i take the time,
even when i don't have it. vote for one thing, folks: LOW or NO
TAXES. no money means no funding, no funding means no laws
or programs like these and others being created, because there's
no money for funding . . . it's the circle
so that the government can have more control over us and know our each and
every move, no matter what. They "say" that their reasons are for
catching online predators, but that is what they are emphasizing so it "sounds
better" and tricks people into supporting it (while they have no idea
that they are going to be spied on too).
Yes, even people that only look up
sewing crafts and knitting will also be spied on- while the government
asks, "Why is this person searching knitting? We know it is an 85 year old
lady that lives in ___ state, retired...But what is she doing on websites
that have sewing tips? Oh...she must be up to something, let's get'er!" - I
can see it now, not comforting at all!
I guess that one comeback would be, "If you don't have anything to hide,
then why does it matter?" My response to that is: NO! There is "nothing
to hide," but I also deserve privacy, which excludes nosy governments'
peeping eyes. I would say, "Do you really think that it is the government's
business if you are looking up your local sales ads for toe fungus remover, Gold
Bond medicated itch powder, hemmorroid cream, or even symptoms of
hepatitus?!? I know that list is kind of icky, but it all relates to very personal,
private business that usually is not made public, or is not for the eyes of
anyone besides who is searching it. Same thing with the illegal wire-tapping of
our phones. Is it really the government's business eavesdropping on
conversations of a daughter asking her mother to bring some feminine
hygiene products to her school because she forgot to get them? What about an
elderly person in a retirement home, on the phone to one of their sons or
daughters, even a sibling of the retiree, talking about having accidents in their
pants, or that they cannot find their dentures? That is personal and
private. No one has or should have the right to infringe on these
things.
They already control enough and spy on enough.
One of the worst parts about it all, is that we haven't done anything to
be treated like we have already done something by our government. We should
be the ones that monitors what our government is doing: going more and more
into debt, not doing their jobs, fraud, scandals, lying to have a war,
jeapordizing our country and our security, leaders getting indicted on
federal charges, pretending everything is okay and making up the fairy
tales to kind of go with what they storyies are about, cheat US citizens out
of jobs, healthcare, education, and freedoms, letting corporations get away
with lenient (if any at all) pollution/dumping/& deforestation that is
contributing to the global warming, and not doing anything but making us
have to rely on their oil more than ever. I could keep going, but I
think that I have made my point (I hope).
The government needs to keep out of other peoples' business and their
lives. The REAL solution to fighting against online predators is the parent's
job! They need to teach their children what can be and what cannot be. When I
first got my computer, I never had any type of problem like that, ever
and my computer was in my room. I NEVER got pop-ups or a stranger trying to
talk to me, I knew better than to chat with anyone; and I had my friends'
usernames so I knew to send an IM or email to- there is no reason for
wanting or needing to contact anyone else. I just think that people are
becoming that much more stupid every minute! The parents need to take
control back and be real parents to their offspring; oh, and stop
letting computers and new technology be something to keep your kids busy while
you stop paying attention to them and stop guiding them, that is not how to
be a parent. I'm reminded of a saying, "Anyone can have a child, but it takes
a mother/or father to raise one."
The solution is simple, or at least it is the best way to conquer this
ugly demon. There is no need for government to make up a new committee (I
like scam), that will need several hundred million dollars to do absolutely
nothing but be nosy in peoples' business and invade in harmless
citizens' research about dog breeds, global warming, and the latest runway trends,
instead of what they "say" they will do or supposedly help. I'm sure
that I am not the only one that feels this way.
I appreciate your time and your stories. Have a great day! -Alexandra
And why did they wait so long when that toddler got raped? (or did comcast delete before the 90 days required by law?)
Personally I think a week is seven times the time needed. Is there anyone reading this who would wait 24 hours before reporting they observed a crime on the internet? (Remember, when you see an internet crime the perp has no way of identifying you unless your data is retained for a year to allow hacking the info) In fact, assume that this sentence is the most ********* crime you ever witnessed.... how many would wait 24 MINUTES to report me? I wouldn't wait 24 seconds!
There are procedures to allow "wiretaps" and we allow that invasion into our privacy because there are checks and balances to the procedure to reduce its abuse.
But we are getting close to McCarthyism if we give up our privacy in the name of lazy investigatory practices. I've got a lot of spam that I don't want to look at but should the government be able to see what spam was sent to me a year ago and claim it shows a propensity towards it? (remember Spam is unwanted email and the only way to tell it is spam is to read YOUR mind.)
if you send naked pictures to me I filter your emails to my trashcan but if the government counts two a week, thats over a hundred a year. "Ahhh, you have been getting a hundred porn shots you must be a perv!"
this completely twists the U.S. Constitution. No one can PROVE they didn't rape a child. It is impossible to prove a negative. But it can be disproved with a single incident. So if I accuse you I need to have proof not the other way around. But massive data retention can only serve to allow misaccusations with gossipy negatives ruining reputations that are innocent but cannot prove it.
Now I can thing of fifty-one lists that contain the names of adults that can prove they did not rape a child in the last year. and in all likelyhood YOU are NOT on any of the lists.
there are 50 states and one us government each with a list of adults that have been in their respective prisons. THAT IS PROOF. the only other way is to be under 24hour/seven days a week/ 365 days a year observation. And even then, they will try to claim it is a colaboration. and again you're back to you cannot prove it, only disprove.
The Due Process of Law is established that at least two witnesses
must observed the events of crime of related events of crime in
order for a warrant, which must be presented to a judge with
evidence and testimony, to be obtained.
McCarthyism doesn't exist. You watch too many movies, read
too many Commie articles. Looking at laws like this, which are
Marxist in nature, and looking at the anti-American stance of
many companies and politicans, McCarthy was Right about the
penetration of Commies and anti-American types in the US. The
Nation is falling apart at the seems. Look at the recent protests
and rash of child-sex crime occuring. McCarthy saw the writing
on the wall. Anybody who says otherwise without video
documentation of the actual hearings, or transcripts of the
Senator's actions as acrhived in the Nation Archives is just
ignorant of the obvious and believes the Liberal Commies on all
issues.
Now, viewing a crime happening on the Internet is heresay, and
is very unlikely to get the attention of anybody in Law
Enforcement. Why? Because they don't care. File you complaint
on a crime. Who cares? They don't. I don't. Not my place. My first
rule of things on the Net is most of it is either fake or foreign.
Ergo, not my place to judge. 2ndly, why would I be looking at
stuff like that? That's a moral question for everybody else to
ponder.
Anyways, let the government watch us, then. If stopping 1% of
1% of 1% of 1% of the population is that pertinent, then by all
means, go right on the frag ahead.
I don't support it because I believe in majority rule by vote
action. It's called a Republican form of Government, and it's in
the constitution towards the end. That doesn't mean I vote for
Republicans, if means I live in a Republic, where I get my say via
vote and representation.
This law is clear case of the concept taxation without
representation, just taxation isn't the issue, it's privacy, right?
read the constitution carefully, and you'll discover we have no
right to privacy specified. what were the Fore Fathers thinking,
missing that one? well, they thought private property is enough,
they never though zoning laws would be passed, and property
taxes, and income taxes, and the internet nor telephones be
created. Yet, should we be watched? NEVER, the Government
that we Are (yes, we are the Government, read the Constitution
and you'll realize it's the People People People) is so afraid of us
getting smart.
well, be it Commie or not, be it liberal or not, be it Mac user or
not, we're all smart enough to NOT agree with this law.
Anybody care to start an online petition to get this law recalled?
Or does anybody have enough money to start suing the
Congress on behalf of the People on laws like this? That's checks
and balances
sorry too much coffe.
for future posters, please, let's get some ideas going and forget
about Hitler, McCarthy, Dunkin Donuts, Steve Jobs or whatever.
Let's see if we can get something going that we can do.
monitoring. Let's start with requiring USPS, UPS, Fedex, and
other carriers to record origin and destination of all matter
transmitted through those channels. Local and long distance
telephone companies must all record traffic, retain the records
for the same period of time, and make those records equally
available to the police. FCC, in concert with the CIA and NSA,
must set up monitoring and recording equipment across the
nation to track radio transmissions, including CB and ham radio.
Let's not stop there ... checkpoints to record citizen's travel
between and within cities ... who knows how much child porn is
being handcarried from place to place ...
Enough facetiousness. I transact business via the Internet and
the proposed monitoring, without specific cause, could be
viewed as an impediment to interstate commerce.
Anything you click on or surf to can and will be used against you in a court of law..
- So why not just put cameras in every home in America

- This is just insane. We have absolutely zero rights anymore in America. Why not just put Cameras inside every home in America, that way big brother can watch everything we do.

Showing 2 of 3 pages (100 Comments)I think we are entitled to a certain amount of privacy in our life.
Of course "Law enforcement" wants this, they would want everything they can get away with, because they don't care about our rights or privacy.
And our congress is stupid enough to believe anything they hear.
