MP3 ok, WMA bad idea
by September 23, 2004 1:06 PM PDT
Great to hear they will be supporting native MP3. I never
understood why they didn't. ATRAC/3 is an ok sound format,
but why make a person convert a file before they can play their
MP3 file?

The story makes mention of WMA maybe not being far behind,
but I think this is a mistake. Not because WMA is proprietary,
but because WMA is a bad audio encoding format. All WMA's I've
heard, all sound like they are being played in a tin can.

Sony: Please allow MDs to Upload.
by richard-s September 25, 2004 3:15 AM PDT
I use Sony Mini Disc Recorders for live recordings etc. They are much better than cassette recorders, but unfortunately the Sony software prevents me from uploading audio files to my PC for editing on the PC.

At present, the Sony software seems designed only for people to buy pre-recorded music and then downloading it to their MDs.

Perhaps Sony will now change their policy and make Sony MDs genuinely useful?
