Is there a benefit to this?
by November 24, 2004 7:20 AM PST
According to MercuryNews.com: "Songs would be sold two ways: through a traditional download store, or by letting purchasers obtain a digital key to unlock and buy a copy of the file directly from another user's computer".

Where's the benefit, unless I'm looking to buy a song or album that isn't available from music download services, such as rare or out-of-print music? But in those cases, will their service have the capability to ensure that the copyright holders are paid?

It will be interesting to see how this service or Shawn Fanning's Snocap works, and if it takes off.

Will the Fourth Give In?
by November 24, 2004 4:36 PM PST
This is so cool... finally a way to share P2P!

Will this trend continue to pick up speed? With the fourth major label give in and allow Peer Impact to distribute their music too?

How will all of this affect the Music Industry?

I think the Music Industry will flourish from this strategic move...

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

There has always been a way to share on p2p (edonkey, gnutella, etc), now the ones who scare easily have a place to go that will be sponsored by the record companies. Fortunaely for you, you get to pay their bandwidth cost, you get a low quality lossy music file at the same price you would pay for a higher quality CD and also a DRM controlled file where they write the rules as to how you use the music file. Those who enjoy playing by the rules of the wealthy record companies will definately appreciate that.

As the record companies would say, HAPPY THANKSPAYING!
