Adults would love this too!
by CanonFan121 September 22, 2006 2:18 PM PDT
I can bet that I am not the only 30something who would LOVE to go to a gym like this! I'm a gamer and enjoy working out, but to combine them? OMG I would be there in a second!! I once belonged to a YMCA almost 10 years ago which had an excercise bike attached to a monitor and it was ALWAYS busy. You could race a computer opponent. Think if you networked them throughout the club?

I'm actually surprised that it's taking this long for such things to go mainstream. Our whole society could benefit from things like treadmills being hooked into video games. As you eluded, it's not a new idea, in fact, it's pretty obvious. This kind of thing would definitely cut way down on obesity. Let's just hope it starts catching on.
I agree

Old news
by heystoopid September 22, 2006 3:23 PM PDT
Old news, it is merely a repackage of other peoples ideas and concepts!, for may others have gone before them, by custom building such projects!

But then again, the question arises, will they pay royalties for using other peoples inventions and idea's, or will they do it SONY pirate style?

Great idea

Great idea. unfortunately most teens ( myself included ) nowadays are either overweight or out of shape. This would be a great motivation for kids that don't like going to the gym.

a fun place to hang out if it had like a cafe thing too. I think its a
great idea.

Disability, fitness and fun.

I read the article about the teen-only gym with great interest while helping research for a project my husband is doing (as an architect student) called 'Butterfly Hotel.' (Plymouth Uni. U.K.)While discovering 'virtual butterflys' (great fun!) I also came across your site.

The project concept is geared towards teens with disabilities - a place for cool experiences,(like the virtual reality stuff) fun, therapy (that's my area; dance therapy, art therapy, massage, water etc). A place to rev up, cool down and find yourself, a place of focus, life direction and purpose through fun activities and meaningful quiet times (while carers back at home get a rest/holiday themselves).

It occured to me that the gym concept could be further developed to make it wheelchair accesible (or have suitable seating) and the games adjusted to allow wheelchair users to take part. I wondered if this had been looked into - as it is an concept we would like to use in the project. Any pictures of such technology - for a display - would be appreciated if they are out there.

Thank you.
