Predictable Predictions
by Andrew J Glina July 7, 2005 12:28 AM PDT
Very unbelievable predictions. Why would 75% of people go back to packaged music when radio and satelite-radio offers a similar deal? My prediction is that Podcasts will be forgotten by 2010 when satelite radio (or digital wireless?) recievers are intergrated into mobile phones, most of which will have 4GB+ of flash by then.

Podcasting? Wait for Videocasting
by random_foo July 15, 2005 9:34 PM PDT
Sites like http://www.vobbo.com/ allow users to record their own video broadcasts for anyone / everyone to see. It shouldn't be long until video casts - amateur newscasts become very common. It's the next evolution in blogging, and only a matter of time.

Vidcasting won't cut it
by mjkeliher July 22, 2005 7:54 AM PDT
Sure, it sounds cool - podcasting with video instead of audio. And yes, it's technically possible. But video doesn't serve the same purpose as audio.

Most of these vidcasts will just be talking heads, a person in front of a camera. That's not interesting enough to warrant the extra effort to produce, distribute, download and watch video. You can get the same thing with audio.

Plus, you can't watch your favorite vidcast while you're driving to work or watching your kid's baseball game. But you can listen to a podcast.

Audio is just as powerful as video in this situation, and even more flexible. Vidcasting will serve some good purposes, but podcasting isn't going away any time soon.
