Stage two of the podcasting revolution

Hello Eliot Van Buskirk:

I found your article "Stage two of the podcasting revolution" enlightening.

Business 2.0 Magazine just posted the following on their blog:

http://business2.blogs.com/business2blog/2005/04/new_issue_of_b2.html

"The cover story is titled, "Do This. Get Rich." Three of our best reporters?Michael V. Copeland, Erick Schonfeld, and Om Malik?came up with 11 cool ideas that could make someone a lot of money. It's funny nobody ever thought of "Pimp My PC" or a search engine for podcasts."

I just sent Business 2.0 an e-mail letting them know that a search engine for podcasting does exist. We have been tracking Podscope.com for a couple of weeks now and the search results for High Octane Trading (HOT) Radio have been impressive to say the least.

Keywords Used: Stocks, Trading, Etc.

All the best,
-Ricardo Rabago

Copyrights?

I still don't get it. Is it LEGAL or ILLEGAL to put recorded music in my podcast? It's not the technical issues that have prevented me from entering the fray--it's the fear of an RIAA lawyer sending me a bill for royalties I didn't know I had to pay on the 40-year-old LPs I want to share.

if you play a set of songs at something like a wedding party, you are violating copyright, and that the RIAA could come after you if it finds out? Any public display of the recorded work is illegal unless you've secured the proper licenses.

Like anything else I read in the press

Like anything else I read in the press... misinformation, spoken with great authority. I would suppose Adam Curry's wife will be very interested to learn that his "girlfriend" does his dishes.

Why do reporters just make stuff up? I thought it was important to be accurate?

Wife vs. Girlfriend

Rusty's right -- Adam Curry's married. A colleague of mine told me the story about hearing Curry talking about his girlfriend doing the dishes on his podcast, and I took it at face value. I maintain, however, that he was talking about her progress with the dishes on his show. Thanks for the correction.
