Why not REPLEAL the DMCA
by swbobcat June 24, 2004 7:39 AM PDT
Why not repeal the DMCA all together by adding it to some popular Bill as a rider?? That's the way a lot of Pork gets through the system.

This way a BAD BILL to start with, I say REPEAL IT ALTOGETHER, just add it as a rider to some bill that flys under the radar.

The DMCA is more than anti-circumvention

The DMCA is a fairly large piece of legislation that resolved a lot of liability issues regarding ISPs and copyright infringement, and removing that part would be HORRIBLE.

As far as repealing a bill via a rider bill, it doesn't seem like a very realistic suggestion for a number of reasons, some procedural.

I would suggest (re)reading Boucher's bill while considering of the different outcomes of the DeCSS, Elcomsoft, Lexmark, and other high profile cases that have challenged the DMCA in its current form.
