Good riddance

maybe he'll stumble off into a corner and die like the dinosaur he is. As for his comment about the VCR. There may have been piracy, but the VCR also allowed Hollywood to expand their buisness to the point where they make more from home video sales than at the box office. The MPAA and RIAA are the companies I know of that try to get away with charging people more for content that even less can be done with.

They're they only companies I know off that tries and succeeds at charging more for products consumers can do less with, thanks to DRM and DMCA.
Hollywood has nothing to worry about...

When I go to a theatre, or buy a DVD, I get exactly the movie or feature I want -- nothing more, nothing less. Most people, however, still have to buy an entire album to get a few songs they actually like. Imagine going to your local multiplex and having to pay for all the movies currently showing, including bombs like 'Raising Helen' or 'Around the Word in 80 Days' instead of the one movie you wanted to see (insert desired movie title here).

Also the format favors the movie industry. You can take your music anywhere and have an enjoyable experience -- the physical space really makes no difference. With movies, bigger is better -- and huddling around my monitor (or even a big screen TV) isn't quite the same as a movie theatre experience, even if you're just watching trailers.

Great Job Mr. Valenti !!!

Hats off to Jack!

There couldn't be more non-sense than that in the Media and Entertainment Industry. Jack has had to listen to more non-sensical positions from more studio executives than probably any other person representing any other industry, and he has done it well!.

The truth is, when it comes to intellectual propert rights and the protection of copyright Jack is representing the best proposition for the Media and Entertainment industry, and I am sure he has heard all arguments, pro and con. Like patents, copyrights should and must be protected if our industry is to survive. The historical evidence for lack of protection has already been exhibited by the Music industry and many a great talent now find themselves in a business that can only produce a third or less of what it did just a couple of years ago.

It will be difficult to find someone to fill Mr. Valenti's shoes and do it with the grace, style, diplomacy and intelligence that he has brought to the role of representing our industry in government.

A big thanks and many kudos to a great (and patient), man.
