Comments on: Hans Reiser likely to get reduced sentence

The Linux programmer who was convicted in April of murdering his wife brings authorities to his victim's remains--and as a result could get off easier.

Linux does not have blood on its hand. Linux is an operating system which most people contribute anonymously or with a name. Regardless who you are, you have the opportunity to contribute to Linux. Even Nazi party member, NSA, and CIA contributed code. These guys have killed more people than Resier.

ReiserFS is a pretty damn good filesystem in its days. There are many other filesystems superceding ReiserFS such as XFS, JFS, EXT3, EXT4, EFS, GFS, etc.

Reiser is a good programmer. That which those who are destitude and those who wish further ill will reap what karma will come to them. It means that if people further make this worse than it already is will one day find themselves demented without knowing because people who are crazy will always say they are not.

I don't think you'll want to play with karma.

Ditto, shame he had to kill someone(don't agree with Karma though, unless I'm on /. where its for real :)).
A true genus(went to Berkeley at 13?), his file system was good, but too bad with his arrest, ReiserFS died.

ReiserFS had a better reputation than it deserved, and I suspect the same is true of its author. Regardless, these days there are plenty of better alternatives, and in the end it didn't really influence the state of the art very much.

And Mr Reiser's defense ('I'm a misunderstood computer geek-- don't hate me because I'm smart') will make life harder for all the rest of us should we be accused of a crime we actually didn't commit. Thanks for nothing, dude.

Such a talent wasted.. The jail authorities should make an exception and allow this guy to have a laptop or something, he could use his talent on.

I agree, they should let him continue to program. I imagine with all that jailtime, he'd make better use of his time coding day and night. heck, that's probably the worst punishment at the same time...

Typical Linux response. Hey, let's get everyone to help out, even murderers! Peace and love for everyone!

*** are you babbling about? No one said to let him go, they were simply lamenting the waste of a intelligent person. We all know you MS shills are retarded, but at least try to have a little critical thinking skills.

They should nail him for illegal dumping, too - seriously, when you live in one of those country neighborhoods, it's really ugly when people dump bodies around.

Joetesta70, your logic is lame. He is a murderer, that does not make him any bit less talented. If he is not on death penalty, he might as well use his talent to do something positive.

I dont understand, why people here are blaming Linux for this episode? I mean I am self-confessed Microsoft Fanboy, but this connecting Linux to Murder is beyond my imagination. People who are making the connection between the murder and linux direly need to visit a head-doctor.

Reiser's intelligence or talent level is irrelevant. He committed murder, and he deserves to receive the same punishment as any other murder. If California won't execute him for his crime, then throw Reiser in prison and let Bubba and his friends teach him a lesson he'll never forget.
