Google has been running pretty slow here in NJ. Just started to pick up but it took over 20 minutes for my gmail account to get my confirmation email for setting up my cnet account so I could leave this comment. At first, I thought the problem was with my computer until I saw this article.

This is the problem with relying on Google, or any form of cloud computing. If it goes out, you have nothing.

I use 4 or 5 internet email sites, and Gmail is by far the buggiest. I am all for a capitalism and free market, but dead set against monopolies, and this is one reason why. If Google ran the internet (they are getting pretty close) and they went down, we'd be in big trouble.

I use Google for Non Profits: webiste, mail, docs, YouTube, Calendar, etc - all of it was inaccessible from about 9:30am-noon Eastern, I live near Philly. As of 1:00 pm, my services all appear to be up & running OK.

My traceroutes to google were going out of the US all the way through NTT in Japan and coming back to the US during this issue. If this was affecting major ISPs like Verizon and Qwest, that routing issue would account for the large amount of packet loss due to high utilization.

I have everything linking to Google blocked all the time and the internet works just fine. In fact it works even better because I don't get blasted with spam sponsored by Google.

Regarding Google outage...it's 1:15am Philippine Time, my Google Search bar is not working since a couple of hours ago and I can't also login to my Gmail account as of this writing. Now I know the reason!

"Can't get to my bank Web site because it's waiting on 'google-analytics.com.'"

This is something businesses need to think about, in this day and age when I can't connect to a business I go to their competitor.

Here's the reason for the outtage, integrating Youtube... looks like their whole server got bogged down with it, but seems to be fixed now. Waiting for the fix to propagate to everyone.

Here in western Oregon I am finding Google totally unreliable evenings and weekends. It has become a real sore spot. Next month will probably do all of the necessary work to switch to Yahoo. I have broadband, highpowered computer and still have the problems. Have checked out everything else - it is Google.

Is this really a problem with google or with the internet as a whole. Some sites are getting pingback and some sites aren't

My problems started Thursday night when all connectivity went down (I'm on AT&T) about 11:00 CDT. Internet came back in a few minutes, but no Yahoo (AT&T Gateway) or Google and I couldn't access AT&T troubleshooting site. By the time AT&T came back up, Google was gone and stayed out (Gmail, browser, etc.) for a couple of hours. Access was intermittent throughout the night, and not just to Google (i.e., access to NOAA.gov was up and down most of the night). I assumed the problem was AT&T until I saw the posts about Google, but I think it may have been a bigger problem than just Google.

Google was bad in Palm Springs, CA this morning. But, happily the interruptions are not long or frequent. Good time to go golf.. Have fun running the rat race!!

Looks like things are back to normal. I can now access Gmail (I got an Error 500 around 10:00 AM ET on Thursday (today)) and all the Blogger blogs I check load. Google News, Reader, and YouTube also load.

How scary to see a lot of services I use go down. Hmm... this might be a cautionary tale on how not to rely on Google too much.

This issue is having more impact than is understood.

Several sites with Google Analytics which I monitor, are having exceptional issues, freezing when they get to the point where the Analytics is loading.
