They shouldn't have caved, now these idiotic political hacks will be embolden by this to make similar empty threats to other sites that can be misused. These Attorney's General should, at very least, be publicly shamed for stunts like this.

Prostitution is honest. There are no games, no manipulation, and no unspoken expectations. She knows what she is getting, the client knows what he is getting, and no one feels used.

As far as the danger goes, if prostitution were legal it would not be in the shadows where predators feel free to operate. Prostitutes would be as safe as any other woman working with men, such as lone sales clerks in shops, or female professionals meeting male clients in their offices. Speaking of danger, being in a romantic relationship with a man is one of the most dangerous things a woman can do, not only for herself but also for her family. Just look at the murder cases in the newspapers and notice what a large percentage of them involve a relationship gone bad.

I have personally known eight women when they made the decision to go into prostitution. (No, I was not their pimp.) They were not trafficked or coerced in any way. They were not underage. They just liked the money.

It definately should be legalized. Makes no sense to me. You can't sell something that is perfectly legal to give away?

Users will just go to new sites like Zoomox and post their ads. Or they will post under other categories on CL. Do the feds think they can really police all the classifieds sites that are popping up? Zoomox has a classifieds page for every city in the world.... over 2 million cities. Is someone really going to check that? Is Zoomox admin really supposed to verify every ad that comes in? It is just a ridiculous waste of time and resources on all sides.

First I know they will go to the other sections of craigslist and or other sites.
Prostitution is not called the oldest profession for nothing.
But let's take a look at what brought this into the spotlight and why after a number of years people even noticed the section. IF it wasn't for the fact that the ladies were posting on the erotic section there would be nothing other then a small article somewhere. If people were harmed or attacked because they put an ad on the site offering to sell some of their furniture before a move would they ask craigslist to remove the furniture section?

I never understand how someone could think a website is responsible for anything a user does. People in the US and this era always want someone else to blame for misfortune. It isn't enough to go after the person that has done the crime but also complain about the tool that was used. If it was a printed newspaper add that the person would go after the newspaper or yellow page ad? Grow up people. Websites, Newspapers, Yellow page ads, are there to list various services for people to provide.

Just for fun I looked at the new section and the old section and with no surprise there are some of the same people posting ads. Also like others said there in the dating sections more and more and the therapeutic section.

Wow well done attorneys way to drive them into the other areas that are for health, dating etc.
Bunch of idiots reacting to over religious people that think they are moral but instead just want to control people.

it seems as if rcol4jc is a typical Christian.

He professes to be "Christian" yet he ignores the admonition of His Lord Jesus to "Judge not, lest Ye be judged..."

Two points:

(1) Where is the actual harm that prostitution does? Consider Eliot Spitzer. You might not like his politics or his personality, but he is a high achieving, law-abiding person, who has contributed to society. Yet he is a social outcast because he was involved in prostitution. If prostitution were legal, he would be contributing much more to society than he is now. Likewise for the vast majority of people engaged in prostitution, whether sellers or buyers. They are basically decent people who do not hurt anyone. We are criminalizing decent people.

(2) Look at how many people are involved in prostitution. The numbers are huge. There are many sellers and even more buyers. Do we want to make criminals of all those harmless people?

Have you ever heard of a logical fallacy? Just because Christian values say murdering is wrong doesn't mean that it is the only source that contributes to people not murdering each other. If fear of eternal hell is the only reason people aren't killing each other, than there is definitely something wrong there, and I would have to say that seems very similar to the Taliban. And you just completely made up that last part and it has little to do with Christianity anyways.

Oh and hey, check out these sites if you want:
