I expect she did more than just check something on FaceBook. She probably wrote something on her wall, which was then displayed on her co-workers' walls as well. Nobody had to be 'spying'. They only had to be a 'friend' and on their own Facebook homepage.

As to whether she should have been fired? There's an awful lot we don't know about 'the rest of the story'.

So ... it's a crime to be home sick AND use your computer? Are we now owned while NOT at work? This is totally ridiculous. I'm sorry, but this whole thing just doesn't add up. When I am home, SICK, I do as I please. I won't be on the computer if I am very sick. This past week, my doctor put me on meds and had me stay home. For the entire week. Do you think for one second I was concerned about being online? This whole situation is not as it seems. Something else must've happened that we are not priv vy to. Think about it. If your employer SPIED on you while you were out, wouldn't you be incensed and fight for what is yours? PRIVACY? Please ... I checked my facebook many times during this past week. IS that grounds to get fired? I think NOT.

I'm a teacher and I dare my employer to say something to me about being on facebook, etc. while home sick from work. I have several problems with that... First of all... I probably got my illness from work... I'm around sick kids every day!!.. Secondly, I spend countless hours of my OWN personal time doing work for my job!! Do they complain about that?? Secondly, I actually have to take time off from work to CATCH UP ON MY WORK because teachers are given more work than they can possibly complete in the allotted time. It is literally not humanly possible to do everything we are required to do without taking time off. to complete it!! I've heard several teachers complain that they had to "take a day off to catch up on work"... If I want to check my facebook while home "sick" from work, I'll darn sure do it. If they say something about it, I will stop all "after hour" work and see how much they like that!!! Employers tend to want to have their cake and eat it too. They don't mind if you do work for THEM on YOUR time, but you darn sure better not check your facebook, etc. on THEIR time!!!! Ridiculous. Stress from work probably caused her migraines!!!
