Comments on: Gmail down for some for a day

Google gets its e-mail service back up for most of the "small number" of users who have not been able to access it for the past day. It apologizes for the inconvenience.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the revamped iGoogle page. I now have a more fully-featured Gmail in iGoogle (plus the new format for the page). I can do any actions I want and even view my entire inbox and what not. That'd explain why I couldn't access Gmail (though I could see the mail, I could never open them) through the gadget, but only the actual gmail inbox. They probably changed it around a bunch.

Having been a Gmail user since the first accounts I have never experienced any problems with it. I prefer Gmail to all the others.

I was hit by this, and am still having problems. Gmail kept telling me that I was logged out whenever I attempted to write an email or apply labels, even though I was logged into iGoogle. I also had no access to my Google Groups.

It's back and (mostly) working today, with a new interface, but the "basic" Gmail interface is missing a few features, like labels, and I am unable to click on links in messages. Opening the "full" Gmail interface resolves that problem, but it looks like Google has a few bugs to iron out in the new interface.

I think it's safe to say that all of the "small number" of Gmail users would rather have been allowed to "opt out" of interface updates until Google had verified that it was working as intended.
