Too much outsourcing
by tkwee December 14, 2005 8:20 PM PST
One of the main reason is because US outsource too much. The same in Singapore, we have so many foreigner in our country that they are the one who will be getting all the new technology and knowledge. No point studying computing because all the jobs are given to the foreigner and outsource.

Gov don't realised that when these foreigner leave the country, they will take their experience and knowledge with them. Nothing will be left behind. We can not keep them too trying to give them citizenship whom many of them are not interested.

no loyalty, no incentives

Tech related companies in this country have "burnt their bridges" with employees by the lack of loyalty and demonstrating long term job security in the tech/programming fields. Lets face it, our cost of living is much higher than a lot of other countries. We need secure, decent paying employment to make ends meet in the US. I am a forty year old who has been extremely vocal in telling kids to NOT enter this field.

BTW....

After six years as a network admin, I had considered becoming a Java developer (I took a few graduate programming classes). Then, I realized that I don't have what it takes to be a programmer- I'm not speaking of ability, but of drive. IT sucked the soul out of my body. I'm working at a university now (making less, of course, but I'm not nearly as stressed out as I used to be- and I actually have time to pursue my passion, which is music. I think the important thing to remember here is, if coding is your passion, then go for it. If you want to be a video game developer, then go for it! We can't be happy in life unless we actually DO something that makes us happy. I was making a LOT more money than I'm making now, and I was totally miserable!!
