I wouldn't blame male sexism.
by Dachi February 9, 2005 7:01 PM PST
I know making generalizations about everyone based only on what I see is wrong, but I don't believe many people are hiring less competent men only because they are men.

In my experiences, if the man and woman are mostly equal, the woman gets the job. Call it affirmative action or something.

Also, I don't buy that women don't have any mentors. Pasty white engineer types don't get much attention from the opposite sex, so where I work at least, if a woman has a question there are an abundance of people ready and willing to help out.

Carly is a horrible CEO - not a Role model
by juchestyle February 23, 2005 1:19 PM PST
Carly has basically begun to run HP into the ground. She is by no means any kind of role model to anyone that wants to be successful; unless of course someone wants to take a successful company for millions why ruining its strength...

The stock price has consistenly gone down under her tenure. Wasn't she just a sales person at Lucent...who did she sleep with to get that job? Furthermore, Dell is kicking the sheet out of HP by consistently gaining ground every year. She bought her competition out? Why? When was the last time a merger really succeeded in creating more and higher profits? HP is loosing ground to Dell. Dell has much better products, they now have better printers and their products are cheaper. Dell has profit margins that put hp to shame. Basically Carly is being let go because she sucks. But they won't say that in public. If I owned stock in HP and found out that she is "moving onto other opportunities" at the cost of 21 million in a severance package; I would be pissed. Why can't I be let go for that kind of severance, I am positive I can drive any company into the ground too!

If women want to admire that, they will continue to be worth much less than a man doing the same job. No wonder women still arn't equal in the work place; they can't use their brains to analyze.

I am not a woman, but I admire Carly for the simple fact that she did obtain a severance of $21million and that is what most men do also...even if men fail they take huge salaries, bonuses, severance packages. She is just following in suit and you should read more on Carly and her accomplishments before making a rash opinion about the validity of her appointment as CEO at Hewlett-Packard. Thank you
