Expectations: Windows 7

MinWin is a gigantic leap forward. A new kernel will do windows a lots of good. One of the arguments put forward by linux fanatics is the stability of it's kernel compared to windows kernel. Microsoft should work on that! This next OS should consume less system resources, retain vista security and should have a backward compatibility with older programs. If it is as good as Xp in this regards, it's going to widely accepted. Finally the price should be reviewed downwards,Office should be included, and possibly, have both the client and server version on the same DVD.

You ALL missed the point !

Dump the windows versions
that you do not like,
that are not stable,
that you have to call ms to install any new hardware on YOUR computer,
that you have to call ms to install windows onto a new replacement computer that is YOURS.

You do NOT need 7 nor vista nor xp.

Really, you do not need them and you do not need the pains that they create.

You do not need any apple crap or macintosh crap, as ms windows is still far better than macintosh any day. Macintosh is limited, it is retarded (oops, "program challanged") by design, it does not play well with others, and its developers HATE software programmers so much that they STILL make it hard to program on a macintosh, no matter what PhD you have in crapintshosh programming.

Get 98 second edition.
Or get NT 4.0.
Or get 2000.

If you are such a smart ass about windows, then you know that you can legally get any old version of windows that you want; it is just that ms will not support it (BECAUSE THESE ARE SO STABLE THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE TO SUPPORT THEM).

Do not keep missing the point. You are the consumer, and it is your choice.

I labor the point.

Older versions of ms windows are so stable that a full isp (internet service provider) using either dial-up or cable can still be built with one (count them: 1) windows 98 second edition desktop computer TODAY, and it will work well, and it will handle the traffic well.

Window 7 ( Window Vienna)

I have Window Vista. I had a few things with Vista. Other that I like Window Vista. I just download sevice pack 1. It look like is doing great so far. I even downloaded Internet Explorer 8.1 beta. It ran in some problems with that. Now I use Mozilla Firefox. I love Mozilla Firefox. It is great program. It is faster then Internet Explorer.

All People out there. Don't go change ur windows if u are happy with it. They are trying to buy their products. If Microsoft let us download it for free that would be great. I dont think that would happen. If it is free then I will try it. If it isn't free then I am going to go buy it. Free doesn't cost a thing.

Microsoft shouldn't have so many versions and should only come out with a 64-bit version as Jaxim said. Another problem that Microsoft has that Apple does not, is the fact that Apple configures their own computers which means they don't have to support different chipsets, older hardware and software. I believe the "compatibility "problems in Vista are mostly related to that. It's easy to blame Microsoft for all the problems but what about the companies providing drivers and software to the platform.

You all got it wrong.

1.0 is one.
2.0 is two.
3.0 is three.
nt 4.0 is four.
XP is five.
Vista is six.
win 7 is seven.

this is because 95/98/2000/ME were a different branch of the kernel. XP built directly off of nt 4.0, rather than 2000.

Standard Running OS's

1. MS DOS
2. MS DOS with Explorer
3. Win 3.11
4. 95/98/98Se
5. 2k
6. XP
7. Windows 7

Multimedia Os's By MS

1. ME
2. Vista

I would assume Windows 7 is meant to be the Next type of Core OS.

The reason they are releasing a 32-bit version is compatability with Older devices on the network
as Vista has next to none only supporting 64-bit.

This is what they should have done in Vista.

They implemented 64-bit arcitechture with Vista and almost anyone could predict serious Bugs
with such an implimentation.

Windows 7 Will follow on from the mass of bug fixes and Provide a Realiable OS to run 64-bit technology.

Personaly I went
dos 3.22
Dos 6.22 (chose not to use 3.11)
95 (just because it looked pretty)
98 SE
2k SP2
XP SP2
Going to go Windows 7

And if they bring out another OS based on Multimedia
i will skip it like i did ME and Vista

BeOS was the only multi-media OS i saw that was of any real stability and reliability.

Windows 7 should be a good Windows to use New Tech on even before SP2
(but being conservative i'll hold out till all the initial wordly problems are resolved ;)

Look at linux , how many updates a year ?
Look at Mac - What a Fing waste , if you want something new you buy a whole new machine.

IBM Compatable All the way!
and windows = let your kids grand parents and parents use a computer with ease

Just felt like clarifying this...

1. windows 1.01
Windows 1.03

2. Windows 2.0
Windows 2.03
Windows 2.10
Windows 2.11

3. Windows 3.0
Windows 3.1
Windows for Workgroups 3.1
Windows 3.11
Windows NT 3.1
Windows For Workgroups 3.11
Windows NT 3.5
Windows NT 3.51

4. Windows 95 (4)
Windows NT 4
Windows 95B

5. Windows 98 (5)

6. Windows ME (6)
Windows 2000 (6)

7. WindowsXP (7)

8. Windows Vista (8)

9. Windows "7" Microsoft is clearly just getting old and senile.

nt 3.x
nt 4.0
nt 5.0 (2k)
nt 5.1 (xp)
nt 6.0 (vista)

For those wondering why they call it Windows 7:

Name / Build
NT 4.0 = NT 4.0.1381
2000 = NT 5.0.2195
XP = NT 5.1.2600
Vista = NT 6.0.6001

Windows 7 (will most likely be NT 7 build)

also, to correct you, i believe that since windows 7 will utilize the minwin kernel... it will not be Nt -----.

i think it will be Win ----

but i guess we'll know when it's released... =)

Guys... microsoft did NOT get the number wrong... if you dont believe me... go to command prompt and type in "ver" without quotes... it will tell you which version of windows you "Officially have"...

so if you doubt what people are posting, why dont you try it yourself...??

dont base accuzations on opinions... use solid facts if you're going to argue it...
