The Vista showcase applications's graphical metaphors are uninspired. And their rendering do not exhibit the relaxed flow of Quartz.
Has you seen Facetop? It was developed using Quartz in 2004. It's a completely innovative metaphor and use of layered transparent visual information to enhance productivity. I don't think Vista could do this kind of interface easily.
as a DBA Administrator/Architect to create data designs, and maintain databases and optimize SQL queries? How is it I can interact with my Microsoft .NET developer friends to go over code, optimize code, open ALL office documents, write code? Why then do I have a MAC mini hooked up to my TV as a Media Center instead of a piece of crap Windows Media Center PC? Why am I able to be a fully productive *professional* with my MAC without the use of Windows? I have only been a MAC convert for 2.5 months, and I am never going back. I have switched my very productive family over to them as well...

After some investigation - I can't help but feel that the "browser not supported" post is little more than a troll post - IE, FF, Opera, Safari, and even Lynx render the open letter with fairly good accuracy. Never mind...
Makes perfect sense. When the xbox 360 came out, there were games available for it. Who is going to buy a console without games? No one. Same principle, why buy a new OS if all you have to run on it are old, boring apps using boring graphics?
I agree totally, what they are saying is help, we need apps outside of our usual S***. Who cares about the glitz. We HAD to move from 95/98 because it sucked and had all kind of serious operating stabilility problems. XP was a leap ahead (not great but functional) but as long as it work why change - for graphic eye candy? - BS! Even greater - marginal hardware now will be obselete along with older but currently functional software. We now are holding off hardware purchases just because we know Vista is coming. Wait to they see that the existing software is obsolete also. all this for graphic candy. Sheeeeeeshhhh
I think I want my PID screen to have a bunch of happy dancing flowers.
Do you think Microsoft could require us to enter our PID number each time we reboot our computers? That would be insanely cool!

But seriously, the clear subtext is that MS desperately needs developers to make applications that require Vista. Otherwise, why should anyone buy it?
