Its funny how they always seem to compare it to Apple. Come on, no one (meaning looking at the numbers compared to MS) uses apple. Therefore they (apple) only need one version.
And, no this isn't some sort of satement about Apple. Just about the Nepolean Jr's out there.
apple (sic)," you could retain a smidge of credibility. It is true that
far fewer people use Macs, and they tend to use them in less
diverse ways than Windows is used, so that might have something
to do with the need for more Windows versions. Or it could be that
Microsoft is after the ever-important shelf space. Tide. Tide with
bleach, Tide with non-chlorine bleach, Tide with fabric protectors,
Tide Free, Tide Ultra, Tide family size, Tide kibbutz size....
importance. He probably thinks IE is standards compliant and
totally secure. ANd I expect that all types of OS's means Windows 1,
Windows 2, WIndows 3, 95, 98, 2K, Me, NT, and XP. After all, no
one uses Apple.
This is one guy who shouldn't....
That leaves 3 versions, that is not too much to choose from. First rule of sales, narrow down to 2 or 3 choices for a customer. If you can't make a choice from 3, how do you buy anything?
Second off people have been asking for choice from MS for years, and they are giving it.
It may be crappy, by merely releasing a yet more expensive option rather than a cheaper option, but I will wait to bash until I have more information.
Why, exactly, do you need to offer 6 different flavors of Vista? A
user edition and a server edition is really all that's necessary. I
supose the EU is forcing another one out of them, but then
that's, what, 3?
Look at Windows XP now, it comes in Home Edition,
Professional, and Media Center flavors. Almost all of the
combined features of those three flavors is found in the single
user edition of OS X Tiger.
Microsoft at it's finest...take something simple, and then make it
hopelessly complicated.

- Yeah, get over it! Anyone who uses MS stuff knows how crappy it is. Most people who know anything about surfing are going to Firefox, and trash IE6 due security, features, and add-ins. Office 2007 is a pig. Adobe software runs so much smoother on a MAC. Just because 90% use PCs doesn't mean it's better. Did that make VHS better than Beta? It means businesses are short sighted and would rather spend $500 on a PC and thousands to support it because they don't know better. I'm not a MAC fanatic, haven't been on one in years. Apple needs a good CAD program, database program, and a better price, or Americans will never change to that platform.

Showing 3 of 3 pages (143 Comments)As for who's ripping who off: If Bill Gates would have been black, he'd be in prison for selling software he didn't have. And Apple, why is it okay to say MS steals from you when you stole the whole frikin idea from Xerox, including some employees?
Besides, if we all knew what we were doing, we'd be running BEOS. And don't cry back if you never tried it. Sadly, it's about marketing, not function.
I like to keep the ball rolling ;)
