That is what wrong with MS and large corporations. It makes the

the revamped feature list is actually reference to all the good stuff being cut out. shame, it might have challenged linux on sheer quality but, alas, it was not meant to be. everyone prepare the disk defragmenter and the registry cleanouts!

and more than one company with 'Vista' in thier name is
considering a suit against MS.
So after many months of intelligent (?) searching, MS has come
up with two very common and uninspiring words to name their
someday-to-be released OS. Maybe the OS is also common and
uninspiring.
Somehow, I think that MS should have increased the banana
allowance for their lawyers - they might have gotten more
perceptive advice about name usage.
But as someone has already said, it probably doesn't make any
difference. MS could name it 'Windows Garbage' and still sell it
(Shouldn't that be Windows Garbage III?)
So after many months of intelligent (?) searching, Apple has come up with a very common and uninspiring word to name their already-released-and-money-sucking OS. Maybe the OS is also common and uninspiring.

a feature, it does it in such a way that the
copy is worse than the original.
Examples:
GUI: Copied from Xerox, licensed from Apple
IE: Copied (borrowed) from Spyglass
DOS: Bought from Seattle Computer products
Powerpoint: Got from purchase of Forethought
Windows NT: Copied from DEC VMS
TCP/IP stack: Licensed from Spider software (and made a horrible mess of it)
True type: Licensed from Apple (Does not
show up on Windoze as nice as it shows up on Macs,
I prefer Linux freetype any day)

Microsoft is original! (ROTFL...) You seem to
have a good sense of humour, (though accidental), even if your comments are pretty brain dead.
Hell, Torvalds himself has said that he started off the project because nothing was happening with the GNU kernel "hurd". If you don't know it, a number of popular legacy server OSs such as Solaris,HP-UX are Unix clones. Mac is a Unix clone for that fact. Ask any well-informed Mac user and he won't deny the fact.
On the other hand, did you know that Windows NT is a DEC VMS clone? Most probably you won't, considering the lack of depth in your comments. But you ask any MS fanboi and he will erupt into flames instantly. Why? Because MS has tried to keep it a secret. An open secret it is, since it is well document in MS history how it got Dave Cutler from DEC and got him to design Windows NT.
Google for "VMS + NT" if you don't believe it.
Now, coming to the actual stuff, no body is crying out loud because a "concept" is copied,as long as it is accepted. However, w.r.t NT and many of its OS, Microsoft typical attitude is that of a poser. They create the impression that it is all MS "innovation" while at the same time blatantly copying behind the scenes. It is this lack of transparency or owning up that is irritating.
Linux never has denied it is a clone of Unix. A well written clone that is. If you say that Linux is a copy of Unix as in the sense of copy/paste code, well take a look at how the SCO vs IBM case is shaping up and get a clue.
Vista will come and again kick the critics, because pc is not about compiling or reading manuals.
Many people are using old windows and will move and the will be a even bigger upgrade the XP. Xp is currently installed on 35%. Users of 95, 98, NT, ME, will surly upgrade or will get a new pc. And many 2000 and xp will also upgrade or get it with new pc.
50% of the windows world is non-XP. They are happy as is and there is nothing but vague promises and expensive licenses at the end of the Vista road. Of course there will be the security flaws since that is what MS does best.
The most telling thing about this is how moronic MS fans are. Mac and Linux people can speak intelligently about why something is good or not. MS fans like Bib and kimo parrot, troll and spout uninteligeble nonsense.
Sorry, just had to say that. :D

I mean really tying into Windows what did you want...Windows Sash?, Clean Windows? Open Windows? Windows Fenetre? (That's French for Windows). I never saw how a cow (Longhorn)codeword really worked. Okay, I know it was the name of a bar in Wyoming or something like that, that the programmers liked, but really I think Vista communicates a long-range view and hopefully that is what we will get a farsighted approach to new tools. With the strong RSS tie in, we are eager to check Vista out.
Even though we have a love hate relationship with Micorsoft Windows, we thought some of the comments trashing the name were pretty strong and incredibly focused on the negative. Can't Microsoft get a break?
Here, we are looking forward to the new release. Avalon sounds great and we can't wait to try it out. I guess you could say at www.McCordWeb.com, we do windows!

- How could they have chosen such a name? How horrible! I wish they would have named it after an animal so people could have complained that they're copying Apple. It's just a name folks. As long as an OS works well then what's the problem? Just need a little something extra to complain about? Curse you Bill Gates!
