SP2 Update
by Boogs September 22, 2004 8:36 AM PDT
I installed it in my XP Pro laptop, and even though I backed-up my system it really messed up my computer. I had to un-install the program. This just caused further head aches as it removed parts of my system it should not have.

In the end I had to re-boot my system back to factory install. It is certainly not an improvement. I will not install it on my desktop systems in my office.

If you can't stand to download those humongous updates, and you are in US, you can order by phone from Microsoft's order no.
1 800 360 7561
There's a nominal fee for shipping. (about $5)
I ordered my XPSP2 on the day it was announced and I received it in just 2 days.
I also ordered my Office updates too.
and they arrived quickly.
If you have the update on CD, you can apply it whenever you need to. and it's safer to stay offline until you've done so. my humble opinion anyway.

SP2 Issues

I installed SP2 and discovered that many of my USB devices weren't working properly (among other minor problems). Most notably my printer communication stopped, even after re-installing the drivers. I removed SP2 the same day I installed it.
Not a big deal as I feel I'm already pretty well protected by firewalls and virus scanner/checker. Just not worth the pain.
