Dear Mr. Balmer: It is Microsoft who is still on the "milking" stage
by johyams March 18, 2007 12:57 AM PDT
How much does Microsoft charge for a single licence of Vista? Just to operate a single *partition* of a non-OEM computer, Microsoft milks a few hundreds of $$$. That's quite a nice milking I would say.

I get a kick out of anti-MS people
by ggibson1 March 18, 2007 9:15 AM PDT
Year after year Microsoft and we Windows developers kick the competition in the nuts. Year after year these same people pull out their plastic oracle and predict that all of us Windows people are about to crash and burn.... that we never create any thing new... yet we just keep moving forwards ... Windows 95, XP, Windows DNA, SQL Server, .Net Framework 1...2....3, IE has always had from day one the most technologies baked in for the developers to take advantage of... many of us were making "AJAX" apps in the mid 90's using IE as the platform... it goes on and on... Java, Open Source, LAMP, Rails, so many failed Microsoft killers...

We Windows developers are legion.

With .Net 3 WPF, WCF, DirectX10, Blend, ORCAS, etc... we will be putting your virtual heads up on a spear.

Continue crying though...

... that you were about to say; if it was/was not you may have even forgotten acronyms like ISO, ODF, ECLIPSE et cetera, et cetera; and, this time around Microsoft may not be up against ardent "golf" lovers (who took Microsoft's Code-Base Windows (OS/2) for granted) but some eager international analysts who wishes to know what is under the hood of VISTA ULTIMATE. So, this time around it must also be assumed that there are "no" in the Windows developers teams that "kick the competition in the nuts". That you are forced to make reference of the ghosts of "Java, Open Source (VOYAGER...), LAMP..." must certainly suggests that you do not sleep well at nights. LOL!

Don't hate Microsoft
by thedreaming March 19, 2007 7:54 AM PDT
I don't hate Microsoft. I use it at work and at home. What I hate is Steve Ballmer. Why? Cause he has this habit of sounding like a complete moron whenever someone points a camera at him.

Bill Gates always kept his cool and even when things when wrong, he never showed it on camera.

Steve needs to learn this so when he's asked questions like, "What do you think of the iphone?" He can answer without sounding like a panicking mental patient!
Your are"legion" ... like sheep

Some of you developers for Windows are like potato growers for
McDonalds - you revel in your dominance as you ride the coat
tails of a behemoth and act like you are 300 Spartans.

Go ahead and eat at the trough, but making crap that runs on
90% of the world's computers is still making crap and MS is
going no where but downward. Have fun waiting for MS to come
up with the "new idea" it is only coasting right now. I'm sure
you'll do fine riding inertia - Ford did that for decades, but no
one needs to admire you for it. Idiot.

Ballmer just referred to Microsoft's customers as cows.

Was I the only one to catch his bad use of terminology.
I thought he was a Harvard graduate.

Balmer also meantioned h-1b, a program that started offshore outsourcing
by Jake Leone March 19, 2007 7:13 AM PDT
Businessweek: The h-1b program is a "conduit to offshoring"

http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/content/feb2007/db20070208_553356.htm

This article details that the top 3 users of h-1b visa, for 2006, are Indian IT Off-shore outsourcing corporations

Infosys used 22,600
Wipro used 19,400

There isn't an american company in the top 6.

There are only ~65,000 h-1b visas per year. So if Universities and Medical institutions are wondering why they can't get Visas, it's because most of them are being used to off-shore U.S. jobs.

Quoting this BusinessWeek article

"In addition, the (h-1b) temporary visa program includes no requirement that companies in the U.S. try to hire American employees before they turn to foreign workers"

So even if you complained about your company prefering to hire a Indian workers, you wouldn't have a leg to stand on in court. And Even if you applied for a job and were the best candidate, it could "legally" be taken by a worker from Indian, and you "the american citizen" can stay on the unemployment line.

Apple is the 100 Trick Pony
by MacGregory March 19, 2007 6:55 PM PDT
I know everyone debates the facts and the dates of when each
company did what, but it is obvious that pc's would not have mice
if Apple hadn't made it popular.

MS's biggest trick was to buy out all competitors or use
monopolistic practices. Okay two tricks.

Just get a Mac. It is so much nicer.

This has nothing to do with Apple! Story is about Google and M$.

Quit while you're ahead and stop being a stupid Apple fanboy troll. Seriously, I mean ****! Quit trying to get people to argue. I am SO tired of reading MS vs Apple comments on here.

PS. - I use a Mac.
I use a Mac too....
by ServedUp March 21, 2007 10:04 PM PDT
and its great you like using your Mac, but I have to agree your
being such a fanboy by getting people here to switch.

I'm guilty of being called a fanboy myself, but being a Windows
user too, it really does make the faithful look spoiled and
uncool.

Lets face it, point blank, the article is really about Ballmer's ego,
and how hes trying to go the distance by spreading as much BS
he can in the least amount of time to see if anyone would
believe him.

Can anyone say vaporware??

<quote>The courage to chuck the bloated, obsolete core that forms the heart of Windows. The courage to build a cutting edge OS from the ground up. The courage to tell their customers it's time to replace their 20 year old legacy apps with modern, more secure versions. And the courage --and confidence-- to win their customers all over again.</quote>Dude, do you know anything about Windows architecture? This idea that Windows is built on an ?obsolete core? is simply untrue to say the least. ? obsolete cores? don't support 256 processors. That's like saying that OSX is obsolete because it borrows from FreeBSD which, as we all know is over 40 years old.

People who have a P4 with an 80GB hard drive and try to install Windows Vista and run their favorite ?registry cleaner? program might have issues, yeah!

I love Linux. I am posting this from Firefox running under Ubuntu 9.10. But you know what? This anti-MS sentiment is just silly.
