You'd be better off...

Examining the culture of Silicon Valley and why executives think
they need to resort to such measures - even as most employees
are loyal and wouldn't leak.

Silicon Valley as a whole used to be much closer to the HP Way -
and Silicon Valley as a whole has fallen down the same well of
secrecy and BS that HP now find itself in.

Widen the scope of this piece, and you'll really find some ugly
things hiding under the rocks. You might even save C|net's
reputation in the process. (Please, no more vendor sponsored

Hurd Knew - So What Now?
by dillon_67 September 22, 2006 9:39 AM PDT
I read yesterday, that Hurd knew what was going on inside HP at the time that the "pre-texting" was happening (according to emails that were submitted as evidence). So how do you expect someone that turns a blind eye (or participates) in such practices to turn HP around? That's like asking a bank robber to return the money to the bank - he's just as guilty as the rest that were behind the scandal.

HP Way destroyed
by Gato Viejo September 22, 2006 10:40 AM PDT
I worked at HP from 1983-2001 and saw it go from a great company to a bad company. Now it is just another Enron or Worldcom or any other corporation run amok.

I've been watching the news and editorials waiting for someone to discuss the HP Way and what Fiorina and Hurd and Dunn have done to destroy Hewlett and Packard's principles. Thanks Mr. Cooper.

When HP opened its new office in Atlanta, Bill and Dave came to the ceremony and walked up the sidewalk while the employees stood outside to greet them - they were quite old at the time and moved very slowly. One employee told me that it was very emotional and moving, and that she had cried.

Now HP's current management is spying on its own employees, reporters and their families. How could the management of this great company have fallen so far?

Mr. Cooper is right - the clock can't be turned back but it's time for new management that will do the right thing by HP's proud employees and loyal customers.

Let's hope that the shareholders revolt and throw all the bums out - Dunn, Hurd, and every board member that went along with them. Oh yeah, and keep going Congress and California DA - stick it to all of them that have it coming.
