Currently in XP, the newer WGA gets installed under a "security" patch without any mention of it being WGA. So can I choose NOT to install WGA in exchange for my own method of determining whether my version is genuine: like my purchase reciept?
Everyone that is supporting MS and trying to talk about 'open source', you're in over your head and it's obvious. Reading people's post is a laugh. Some of you like to pretend you know what you're talking about, but it's obvious you've been stuck in the MS world and that's all you really know.
I have a feeling that if most of you were put in front of a Linux command line, you'd have no clue where to begin.
Don't takes 'sides' if you're only 'educated' on the 'side' you're defending. You look like a fool.
I agree with whoever said that this is more than just loose talk. Microsoft has made several internal changes and we shouldn't discredit their decree as "throwing a bone."
This is just like politics. You just get a different voice and face to put a different spin on the same old crap. I'll believe this when rattlesnakes stop biting.
MS has committed to the status quo, whoop de doo. MS is gonna be good and work better with others. Ya right. Was that the left hand or the right... slight of hand.
Its true resolve is never to play fair, to hoist all the rubbish it can onto the customer who then is forced to do their quality control work for them. To ensure that after a certain number of years the computer is raided with insoluble problems of their making so that a new computer and new software is inevitable. Their mission is to provide an overall service to the community which is all about making profit, killing competition, and eventually taking over the www and thus make trillions instead of tens of billions. And the rest of the world will as in the past, stand by and allow them to do it. As with politicians, we deserve all that we get because nobody does anything to stop them.
Microsoft has taken a positive step by creating these principles on their own without the hammer of government mandating them. Obviously this is a smart business decision for Microsoft and it turns out to be a good decision for consumers too because we will have more choices and probably better products.

M$ with thier talk of embracing aspects of Open Source is just a stall while they gather their patents for an all out assult.

Lions promise not to eat "cute" animals anymore...
Sharks vow to become vegetarians, eat kelp...
And Bush supporters vow to see reality.
US-DOJ antitrust convictions and (recent as of last week) EU antitrust convictions notwithstanding?
Sorry, doesn't wash.

No doubt - it's really good PR for those who don't know anything about MSFT's history.

put out a better product (like Windows) and the public will decide with their money.
