UNIX was made that way in the first place. So yah they could make a lot of money on the server and the desktop as well as we see with the OLPC program. But as far as THE desktop NO as these so called desktop Linux distributions are still heavily geared toward community reliance within a larger more moderated SERVER systems.
Maybe that could change one day but probably not with POSIX 'muti-standard' heavy systems.

- linux ubuntu wins my award 4 worse software of 2007

- where do i start to say how HORRIBLE this software is? with ubuntu 606 my wireless key board worked fine, even right from the live cd. with U704, nope.. EVERYTIME i reboot i gotta use a serial keyboard and mouse, boot up the pc and then reconnect the wireless keyboard. there's no good software for linux- so say good bye to old faves like quicken, any of your face password managers, and outlook. (ok you can still use firefox and emule aka amule).. oh and connecting hard drives, formating them and getting them to "mount" on start up- better have gone to MIT in Cambridge. playing dvd's? ha.. THREE WEEKS and i still cant. and just in case you decide you dont want to use linux anymore- sorry it messed up my drives and boot disks so now i'm stuck with it and cant go back to windows--- google uninstall ubuntu its well documented.
