Bootchart.org benchmarks for upstart?

It would nice to see bootcharts for 6.06 and 6.10 side by side to compare the boot time of upstart.

51 sec for vs 43 sec
by Dachi October 26, 2006 2:01 AM PDT
I googled and found this link here with various boot charts posted by users: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?s=95672fb02fccde1dda845cf4d17e2259&t=241604

One use who tested both distros said he was 51 Drapper (init) and 43 seconds using Edgy (upstart), and Edgy was installed on a slower HDD.

That is about a %15 gain but it isn't too scientific either.

Correction: gnome version

The version of GNOME is 2.16, not 2.6 (a quick google search says it was released back in early 2004!)

What I love about ubuntu
by thedreaming October 26, 2006 7:22 AM PDT
I love that they put out not only regular updates every 6 months, they also put out updates in between their regular update cycle and you can get everything updated, not just the system itself, so if there's a new version of gimp or gaim or evolution, bingo, you get it! Sweet!

Don't forget the community

I have always been turned off by how snobish many linux forums and such were. Getting help was nearly impossible with some. I have never found an answer that was snotty, rude, or completely ignored in any of the Ubuntu forums or fan sites.

I think Ubuntu is on the right track to becoming a main stream desktop replacement. Not any time soon, but on the right track.
