This is very interesting, and not frivulous

I recall, Intel building a hard java run-time engine, and Microsoft
using mafioso style tactics to get the project killed. This really
happened.

What I can't remember is, if Sun was working with Intel at the
time. They probably were, seems to only make sense.
Unfortunately I don't remember.

I wonder if Azul has any familiar ties, or past relationships with
either Intel or Sun. Anyway, you can bet your last dollar that
Sun already has the Java run-time covered concerning hardware.
Azul, will most likely have to pay-up. But I am damn sure they
can work a compromise, because Azuls prospective success is
good for Sun, and Azuls prospective failure is not.

How about getting some real details as to what royalties Sun is asking for, are they trying to charge per Azul system, CPU, Core, etc?
Has Azul already paid certain licenses for Java?
Do your homework!

What "prospective failure"? Sun's not trying to put them out of business - they want a piece of the pie... Whichever way it goes - they'll be around - provided their model holds up.

This article is lacking much detail - it doesn't even say how royalties results in Sun getting part ownership of Azul. (perhaps their proposed fee is so high - they've suggested stock compensation)
