Comments on: Microsoft's 'big bang' could be its last

A flurry of new products will ship in the coming months, some more than five years in the making. That's too long, Microsoft concedes.

What Microsoft "does" isn't interesting anymore.

I've used OS X since it came out, there are no Microsoft apps on my
systems, and really could care less what Mr. Bill and the boys
choose to unload on the computer world.

Here is what I think.

Microsoft pays Apple to stay out of its monopoly. I know that open source and commercial products are competing with them but Microsoft has no huge competitor like video game systems do. Its more like 90% Microsoft and 10% Free/Apple

Talk about no competiton whatsoever.

If somebody came along to compete with them, Microsoft would immediately take them out by preventing the company doing anything whatsoever. I'm talking commercial wise not the other Free/Apple stuff that is not really competing whatsoever. Where do you really see Apple computer? Its rare. Even Linux isn't really much competition because I rarely see them. Only the computer geeks ever run them pretty much. Most people don't care. They will just run anything that comes with the computer.

In Five Years ...

In five years, I wager the following will happen:

1) Microsoft will have to make Windows's server protocals open (as the EU is pushing for).

2) MS will have an official stance on Mono (.NET on Linux), which will probably be favorable towards it.

3) MS will have a real strategy that accepts Linux and open source and begins gearing its own offerings as compliments to open source.
