Comments on: IBM to release near-ready DB2 Viper database

Looking to unseat Oracle, Big Blue to provide a release candidate of DB2 Viper, generally available by midyear.

Did someone at IBM did up some old code from a 1970s
navigational database :-)

But DB2 is heirarchical anyway. I suspect the "hierarchical" refers to the physical storage method, rather than the logical.

But - that 1970's comment is a bit out - IBM STILL makes a good living with DL/I.

SQL 2005 already provides native XML index and its almost a year old now, not sure what the big deal is.
