Dual-core 2.8GHz Xeon at the same time as dual-core 2.4GHz Opteron?

I'd hate to be the Intel guy that decided *THAT* wa a good head-to-head comparison.

Apparently they didn't see the Opteron speed bumb coming, or they would have HAD to come out with a significantly faster Xeon.

A 4P Opteron HP Dl585 outperforms 16P Xeon 3GHZ/4MB. see http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=22711

SUN's 2P (4core) 1U X4100 with 2x Opteron 280 is 1.5 times faster than DELL's 4P Xeon 3.33GHZ PowerEdge 6850. You figure that the X4100 will be at least 2 times faster than 2P (4core) DELL xeons at 2.8GHZ.

That's just one part..

The other part is the power used on an Opteron. If you note the power costs of any organization (With around 1000 or more employees) power is the third largest contributor to their bills. And a complete switchover to AMD would reduce it by atleast 30 percent%. The more power packed an Intel, the more power they consume, so where's the challenge?
