I applaud McAfee for this effort as long as it focuses mainly on user education and not marketing opportunities to sell more McAfee products. Obviously there should be some payoff for McAfee in providing this, but as long as the sales pitch is subtle, then I'd say it is a fair trade-off.

LMAO, Lets see use a very insecure app like IE to see if you are infected is like using a bucket with a hole in it to carry water.

Wow! another great tool. I took the test and was shown to be clean. Cool. Those running a type of anti-virus like AVG, Avast. etc.. that usually are free, will benefit the most from this scanning website, since many of them may or may not be aware that these "free" anti-virus software ONLY do BASIC functions.
Many times over I had been called to come and help them with some problem or another and always find that the reason this is the case is because of malicious software that had installed themselves. And yes, they have these "free" anti-virus software installed. I am not degrading anyone, but admonishing those to go to these respective website whereby they downloaded the anti-virus software and READ what's in the offer or function delivered in using these "free' versions from their "subscribed" version. There's always a caveat with "free", ya know.
This website may be a good place to "check", so try it, and spread the word, you may save a friend or a stranger. Have a Safe and FUN surfing day.

What a load of BS! There is a mountain of good and effective free software that will protect your Windows computer. Strange how I have a few friends that have been running AVG free, Spybot SD, and Adware SE and Windows firewall for years and have yet to be infected. All are free! As a matter of fact they use it although Road Runner gives CA Internet Suite for free to all it's users.

There's always a caveat with "You get what you pay for."

When I was a Windohs only user, I'd pay particular attention to the comparison tests in magazines -- and the bottom line was that no paid-for product was totally reliable. Yair, you can be totally on top of updates and run multiple apps scans and still be at risk. The awful truth is:

*Cybersecurity is always one step behind the NEXT exploit.*

Sort of reminds me of a remade version of www.grc.com which has been around for years.

It's a good idea, but McAfee is nortorious for it's zealousness fof false positives. Gotta admit, it works well to keep my machine clean, but had to learn to believe only half of what I see. Precarious, maybe, but I'm ok with that.
