Comments on: Countdown to Conficker--a bust so far

We're well into April 1 across the world, and though researchers say the worm is awake on computers in Asia and elsewhere, it hasn't taken much action. We'll keep you updated here.

Seems like this worm is very effective - it's kept everyone's attention for months now. Kind of like a decoy keeps the ducks from noticing the hunter.

just browse smart! use free antivirus like AVAST ... works like a charm .. and the usual updates seems to be just enough for me

Also have McAfee siteadvisor installed in Firefox ... awesomeness - not saying its perfect, but it gets it done easy and cheap.

Norton/Symantec has posted a removal tool to scan your computer for the Conficker C worm. They call it Downadup, but it's the same bug. Download and save the tool, here:

http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2009-011316-0247-99

Read the instructions on the page. There are further links to help you follow any instructions you don't understand. Notes:

It's best to run it in "Safe Mode."

Disable "Windows System Restore" before running the tool. Don't forget to re-enable it after you run the tool.

Another suggestion not on the page is to disconnect from the Internet by unplugging the cable from your DSL/Cable modem or turning it off.

I thought this was a hoax at first. But I read more and more tech articles on it and decided to shut off my modem today. After News channels reported nothing had been happening. I turned it back on. I had to renew my IP address, and at that point, my screen went half black and half granular gray and I had to do a manual restart. This has never once happened for the two years I've had this computer. Has anyone else experienced this??

Apple is NOT unix. it is poser UNIX. If you want UNIX, get Solaris. and for pete's sake, stop acting like mac is the end all be all. No OS is. As for conficker, it will do NADA to my SPARC

I wonder, could someone have given a false date for Confickr to hit, to put us off, then when we least expect it, BAM??

Also, would KeyScrambler Pro, that scrambles every key typed, in Firefox, IE, chats, AOL etc, help keep our passwords and more safe from worms and trojans? (KeyScrambler Free protects Firefox and IE only, and is great when ordering or doing your banking through one of them. It will also cover emails you type if you open them from Firefox or IE.)

And most of the apple fan boys dont even know how to use there mac, they just use it for instant messaging and the "Professional In media/Artist/DJ/Painter" reputation that comes with it, but all in all they a re just little kids trying to act cool like hte big boys that made MACs the best choice for digital media work.

I love Mac, I love PC I own both they are my 2 wives, ones nice and sexy, but hte otehr one does hte hard work around hte house.
