assembly works on all machine processor architecture almost, well almost, may be a few it doesnt, which i am not aware of. if ppc/ppc64 is the MAC CPU arch and it uses the assembly byte code since its a BSD variant microkernel arch, which is similar to ELF which is common to all unices and linux and bsd? if someone knows assembly + c + IPC? MAC is as stable as a hay stack 2 inch away from a fire place. and since there are examples of cross arch cross platform virus/worm/malwares? then HOW DOES ALL MAC USERS FIND MAC OSX SAFE? yes the line was in caps to grab attention of nursery aged bickering women attitude MAC OSX users? not even apple makes such remark which these MAC OSX users makes. i guess i can make myself pleased with one answer 99% of MAC OSX users are utter abnormal screaming idiots. and the 1% are busy developing softwares and may or may not making money selling it.
your call MAC users, ball is in your court.
and windows kernel? try to take a look as shared source from microsoft windows on the kernel? yes the source code of kernel, well, max as per windows agreeable policy is offered to public. http://www.microsoft.com/resources/sharedsource/windowsacademic/researchkernelkit.mspx
darwin is mach 3.0 + freebsd. so i dont understand? if MAC OSX users are asking us to switch to MAC hardware with OSX? then they are "INDIRECTLY ASKING PC USERS TO SWITCH FROM LINUX/BSD/UNIX/WINDOWS" to freebsd and openstep? hahahaha. man you mac osx users are friggin insane circular clown.
this is where you can get the windows kernel. and in darwin you will see the darwin's kernel http://developer.apple.com/opensource/index.html, which is BSD variant kernel, and linux kernel from kernel.org and netbsd kernel as netbsd.org and freebsd kernel at freebsd.org, openbsd is a fork of netbsd, so for openbsd see netbsd.org ummmmmm that makes almost all the OS discussed here. now if someone knows how to configure kernel well? and if the kernel is the final ring in the PC 3/4 ring arch where outer is user and innermost is kernel? then stop arguing you got the best OS. now here is cheaper than the cheapest question which is not even worth 2 cents?
"mike you know how to compile a kernel?"
if you dont?
"mike you aint $h!t. NO $h!T."
and if you dont know how to play with registry?
you aint gonna get counted here for any importance.
so mac users who recommend us to switch to mac hardware and mac OSX? go annoy someone else, else learn to compile kernel and then come back and argue this also goes to linux placard holders too, if you cant compile kernel? you dont spark a fight, PLEASE. unless you know what you are doing? simple one liner "DONT DO ANYTHING ABNORMAL."
conclusion : shouting salesman (UNPAID) for apple MAC OSX are abnormal idiots, as they are INDIRECTLY loudly promoting freebsd.
hehehe, bahahaha, lawl, rofl.

Why has everybody missed the major bit of the article?! Here's a clue:

---"I had what I thought were adequate protections. You know, I had anti-spyware software," she said. "And antivirus."

"And I thought I had a good enough firewall. Wrong!" Rappaport told Stahl. "My understanding anyway is that they were able to get some sort of bug onto my system that disabled the ability to update these software programs." ---

The practice of running anti-virus software and the like is part of a computer security practice known as "enumerating badness". The idea is that you can find out what is undesirable and block it. Every couple of minutes, a new piece of malware gets unleashed onto the internet, which means that "enumerating badness" is a dumb idea that's even dumber now than it was five minutes ago.

The best approach to computer security is "enumerating goodness". Let's give an example: I typically run 5 programs most of the time, with maybe another 20 that I occasionally use. Allowing 25 programs to run and blocking the rest, is a much easier task than trying to manage a list of 115,000 different pieces of malware.

Mary believes that the son was unintentionally responsible for infecting the family computer by downloading stuff from the Internet and running it. Think about this: Anti-virus software did not stop this infection. An approach of "do not run anything except these 25 trusted programs" would have stopped the infection.

Windows users need to get out of this mindset that computer security involves buying and installing a hundred different programs for removing viruses and spyware and suchlike. It has been proven time and time again that the enumerating badness approach DOESN'T WORK, so let's make computer users safe by implementing an "enumerating goodness" approach.

okay here is an alternative solution to this problem, if you agree with me? or think this might work? give this approach a try. remove the XP operating system, refer M$ site on how to uninstall OS, else? you know the old fashioned approach, format the hard drive and install XP/Vista/et al M$ product range.
then install cygwin or colinux if XP, else SUA, subsystem unix application. YES ALL THE SUA SOFTWARES ARE FREE. all of 'em. now go to SUA primary website, its again in M$'s sis site. and download rest of the package. and for a week forget the usage of all pirated products. download the trial version of windows virtual PC and install and in that install ubuntu or download a ready made one online. start using and a little bit reading, just a little bit, the ubuntu manual is just 180 pages max. read it. and start to use common sense.
i already said cygwin/colinux if you are that confused about these? get cygwinX, and play it in virtual PC, if using vista/windows server 2008 (yes 2008 advanced server can also be run on a 1.8 gig celeron CPU and 512 barebone ram.
now start reading the ubuntu book, its only 180 pages MAX. then?
now install all the packages you need to run for your PC's day to day work. another alternative for M$ Office is open office, if NO you are a strict M$ loyal follower? keep getting the trial product keys for M$ office.
well, hell yeah man! M$ gives away 5 product keys for free for 120 days.
now M$ OS and M$ Office is solved. now go back to SUA if vista/2k8 or cygwin/cygwinX/co-linux and type either apt-get for debian class OS or rpm for redhat based OS, i wouldnt recommend slack/gentoo at this stage. and keep on getting free updates and softwares. simple.
well reading this post may look simple, but to be frank? this takes a min of 14 days. and i believe its worth a sacrifice. once you are done reading 4-5 times the manual? you are free to go. you will see 95% os the softwares in cygwin/cygwinX/co-linux/SUA are compatible with windows. and you will be surprised to see the result. even with aero in vista? and other junks? when you run these apps in cygwin/cygwinX/colinux/SUA? you will end up in a better state. less problem with pirated stuffs which got nasty malwares. well. i guess you will be able to really smile if you follow this approach.
i ran windows server 2008 advanced server on a C734TU HP Compaq laptop, celeron 1.8 gigs and 512 ram, with aero and M$ Media player as base. and then rest in SUA. since i am from a heavy Unix/Linux background? i didnt feel ,much pressure. if you find it tough like blame it as beginners luck. well, we all blame M$ for bad luck.
IMHO, MS just performs fine if not stressed. now the major question. are we ready to sacrifice so much for the awsome comfort later? choice is yours. and secondly? "IF & a BIG IF" a genuine M$ customer? then there is nothing to worry, M$ doesnt care a penny of what all software you use other than genuine M$ products mainly OS and Office. so you are happy, M$ is happy. and lastly? the amount of time and hassle you save by following this approach will help you buy a genuines M$ OS and Office. just a little calculation here and there, some additions and subtractions here and there. and well, you wont require a costly APPLE MAC shackle asking you to pay for an OS which is based on Mach 3.0 and freebsd, so even if you use darwin you may still build a full blown OS with the basic darwin.
well, all its a matter of choice, as how its to be done.
my cheap 2 cents.
good luck.
all info related to OS and Office is in M$ and M$'s allied sites, and SUA is M$ product under GPL, SEE M$ USES linux based products too. hehehe, we win. rest is upto you.
i just installed kaspersky to something similar, and my system went around 20 second slow to boot and normal operation was 3-4 sec slow. JOB DONE! CLOSE THE CASE!

'Look at our two local boys made good. They've cheated some greedy Westerners out of so much money,'" Jackson explained. "They're heroes," Stahl remarked...."

What makes Greedy Russians any different than 'Greedy Westerners'? What's to be proud of? ANYONE that steals is GREEDY. One day you'll realise we all live on the same planet, you cheat others, you cheat yourselves.

Stupid Russians.

I'm not being racist - I don't care where these hackers are from, if you have malicious intent toward others you are a dumb ******* spoiling a good thing for everyone else as usual. Why don't you all go hack each other and leave everyone else alone.

"The hackers, he says, are typically young, male and often from Russia. "

it seems true, since most notorious spaming gangs (according to spamhaus) are come from russia too....

All this debate about how well people protect their PC and how Macs are safe. Where is the debate about protection of the millions of virus magnets: smartphones!!!
