Comments on: iTunes 8 causes Windows Vista problems

Apparent incompatibility issues of Apple's latest music player cause "blue screen of death" on some Windows Vista machines. Short-term solution: detach non-Apple USB products.

The problem IS Vista, or rather the way Vista's USB driver management handles itself---which is, unsurprisingly, HORRIBLY.

And isn't Vista supposed to be incapable of bluescreening? How is that Apple's fault? Sounds like Microsoft made a promise they couldn't keep. Again.

So, windows fanboys, go enjoy your broken operating system that's excellent for video games and pretty much nothing else, and let those of us with the foresight to have been using Macs all this time enjoy our toys. There's no reason to call us names just because our stuff works.

Believe me I am NO Microsoft fan, nor am I a fan of Vista, but how you can make that statement without any backup or references is asinine. Explain Vista's USB driver management, or the lack thereof as you say. ANY OS is capable of a kernel panic (BSOD) if a device driver incorrectly directly accesses the kernel without going through the OS interface. That was the reason for wrapping the kernel in the first place.

Well, iTunes 8 works just fine for me on my Vista Home Premium desktop, as did version 7. However, there is some sort of problem, as since I installed iTunes (period), I cannot use any other optical disc writer (Vista's own or Roxio) to create either CDs or DVDs on the desktop.

Luckily I've a laptop and some big thumb drives.... But I'm sure waiting for a resolution to the problem, whatever has caused it.

Has anyone seen the problem where a machine (brand new HP) running Vista and Itunes8 will periodically CRASH?
No Blue screen of death- just powers off and goes completely dead
Have talked to the HP Advisor has had me update several drivers and load latest bios- no help
Appreciate any advice.

I also had a problem. I did not get the BSOD, but it turned off my firewall, made my Norton go nuts, and made my wife?s Zune try to download all the mp3 files on our computer. Prior to this latest update I had no problems at all. Anyway, in Norton under history I found that QuickTime (qqtask.exe) had changed over 341 settings after install. I uninstalled QuickTime, everything went back to normal. Except iTunes of course, it needs QuickTime to run. I uninstalled iTunes, Reinstalled a previous version, and viola error message. My iTunes library is not compatible with a lower version. I will now try to restore my computer to two days ago. I hope it works!

I have spent up to 4 hours loading my music into the iTunes 8 only to have it deleted out of iTunes once I reboot or close out of iTunes. I've had nothing but issues with iTunes since I started using it on Vista.
