Less Power Use? Sure, Because The Chip Is Less Powerful!
by Mister Winky October 12, 2006 1:03 PM PDT
While this makes for a great (desperate?) marketing campaign for Via, it ignores a simple truth: one of the main reasons their chip uses less power is because it is significantly less powerful than AMP & Intel chips.

Via's conservation efforts are a positive step, but let's be clear: we won't be seeing any Via chips in servers or powerful workstations because they don't meed the needs of their target audience.

The writing is on the wall and AMD and Intel see it, too: power use matters to many buyers, but it rarely matters *more* than having powerful systems.

Give me less power!

Just what I always wanted a new computer that is slower than my old one! Wonderful! An ARM7 uses even less power so it is even more green! Wow!

The truth is Via is greener because they ship far fewer processors. They will be even greener when they turn out the lights and lock the doors.
30.45 Percent?!?

Energy consumption

I think cutting the power supplies waste would be much better than cutting the consumption of the processor chip....certainly more "bang for the buck" in my thinking.
