Better health care and fraud protection may sound good, but are they worth the potential privacy trade-offs?

Safe for MRIs?
by Thuf August 24, 2004 6:41 PM PDT
I don't know that much about RFID technology, but I do know that it somehow involves a conducting loop to form a small radio transmitter. This might serve as a strong absorber of RF during an MRI exam, potentially causing severe burns. That seems like a pretty serious drawback to a technology that's supposed to help patients...

(note: the problem wouldn't arise with the removable bracelet type design)

Pretty big supposition...
by MTGrizzly August 24, 2004 11:28 PM PDT
...that these chips are supposed to "help" patients.

Your concerns are practical. The government and large
corporations will not be interested in the few that will be
affected in a negative manner by the presence of this
technology. They are interested in the millions who will buy into
this and provide an unparallel level of access to personal
information that can be used in whatever way will benefit
government and large corporations.
FDA speaks on this

The FDA has determined that Verichip is incompatible with MRI. (And other things that are horrible to think about!)
Benjamin Franklin warned us!
by August 25, 2004 8:23 AM PDT
I find it ironic that to reply to an article about invasion of privacy, I have to give private information. Secondly, Ben told us "those who are willing to give up their freedom for security deserve neither" We all need a lesson in "Let go and Let God" You will never control everything, everyone, or every possible problem; and RFID will not save you from yourselves.

Rock on!

That's why we need a license to use technology.. ;-) The voting issue would be a non-issue...

Maybe, we should start in the areas where voting systems are being automated. Then you would know how many people are not going to be able to vote because the couldn't easily read or count dots on a white paper like the time before...

RFID is a great idea, It will make it easier to do a bunch of stuff and,,,, it will be just as secure as your mail-box right outside your house.

Bug Me Not!
by Not Bugged August 25, 2004 11:21 PM PDT
I felt this way too, and even stopped posting on web sites for quite a while because of this concern,) but I read an article about a web site that gives you an alternative.
BugMeNot.com was created as a mechanism to quickly bypass the login of web sites that require compulsory registration and/or the collection of personal/demographic information (such as the New York Times). You can search for logins by pasting the entire url or just the domain name (e.g. www.foobar.com). And no, you do not need to register to use BugMeNot.com.
It doesn't work all the time, but it's usually always worth the try!
microsoft...
by August 25, 2004 9:01 AM PDT
isnt microsoft currently trying to patent a technology which
turns human energy into electricity? THAT is scary, if this ever
became widespread, or mandatory, i would not want microsoft
to be behind the technology, at all.

the technology does come in handy, but im not sure if i would
want somehting like this in me. im terrified of large coporations
and the government (same thing, right?) abusing their power...

you know someone will abuse the power, and thats is why i dont
like this technology. other than that, its great, in my opinion.

Useless complaints
by 1moreguy August 25, 2004 11:50 AM PDT
This is the sort of thing we must learn to live with. I have personally signed up for an implant, and will continue to agree with my decision.

Whining about privacy, and other such things, is exactly the reason why technology is advancing at the slow pace that it is.

How many good, useful technologies have been destroyed or dropped, simply because people felt the need to complain. Face it, deal with it, if someone wants to invade your privacy badly enough, they will, you won't need an RFID tag for that.

How much information did you give up to register to post messages on this board. This company can now go and get all the information it wants on you.

Missing the whole point
by August 25, 2004 12:10 PM PDT
It's not about God being miffed at you getting a prosthesis; it's simply a survival tip.

You can defend yourself ONLY if you know who your enemy is. And universal identification is the key to controlling terrorism, or so we are told.

As liberal elements in our government and media industry (Global-ists) condemn racial profiling, I'm convinced the only politically correct alternative will be a world-wide move for bio-implant ID chip implants to control terrorism. The chips will be subcutaneous devices in the right hand or forehead for convenient scanning (http://www.wired.com/news/mediaplayer/0,2108,50783-50783-implantation1,00.html). Scanner/readers will be web-linked to a world-wide data base and used for controlling access to everyday activities. Most notably will be financial transactions.

Terrorism will not diminish and universal implants will be pushed even more. Intense debate will rage accusing this technology of being predicted in Revelation 13:11-18. Many good people will refuse to participate for religious or civil liberty reasons. They will be labeled religious fanatics or "terrorists" by the Globalists.

Revered religious leaders, and finally the Pope himself (try adding up the Roman numerals of "Vicarius filii Dei"), will pronounce the ID implant technology good for humanity to control terrorism, and the Revelation 13 interpretation is incorrect.

To see what happens next, think Revelation 14:9-10 and Russia's 100 missing small-yield tactical (suitcase) nuclear bombs detonated in as many large cities.

Who dies?, those who got the implant and live comfortably in the cities. Not because God was upset at them for getting the "Mark of the Beast" but because they were in the cities when nukes went off.

Who escapes?, those who didn't get the implant. They adopted a rural, subsistence/barter lifestyle because they couldn't function in the cities being unable to buy or sell.

Stick them in the guys at GitMo..
by August 25, 2004 12:16 PM PDT
Put these babies in the heads of ever guy at GitMo. Then set them free. Don't do this until you are able to track their location or RFID in realtime; by the way, you can... ; Once you have this ablility, you save millions and billions on keeping tabs on criminals..

Search and Rescue, Military Personell.. good canidates.

Why not use a decaying number and an un-encrypted or encrypted string to get the RFID issues on duplicates under control...? Just a thought... I can do it in a web page. Not to mention, since POP3 and SMTP email is free text anyway, not one soul should be against this, we all use email and have our Invoices sent to a free email account anyway.

Maybe what we really need are classes on how the entire Internet and Technology works; maybe a license... And, we can inject the RFID at course completion... This way you would weed out those who really have no business voting or sticking their noses into TECH that they know nothing about...

Oh, Can we Start with Wh"Orrin" Hatch?

(Just kidding :-) )

Where can I get my Chip?
by August 25, 2004 12:25 PM PDT
I want this baby now...

I Want chip#00000000000000000000000000001
(Borg Home Area)

Can I also have programming access to it and get the free useage of it? If this is all true.. By all means, shoot me with the chip implant gun (Cows can be tracked this way now) and let me design tracking toys like I want.

Think again
by rodnarms August 25, 2004 5:09 PM PDT
Your serious man? Your going to get a computer chip implanted in you? Seriously what are the benefits right now. Society isn't even set up for it. You will just have a useless chip in you.

You are your own person and I can't make your decision, but think twice! Your worth far more then what you earn. Don't give your loyalty to a corporation.

Keep it with your family, your children, and maybe your God.

Are we even having this conversation now?

RFID tags implanted
by August 27, 2004 12:53 PM PDT
Can someone explain to me, in perhaps simple, short words even a Ph.D. can understand, exactly how an implanted RFID tag differs from, say, a tattoo on the inner arm? Other than in a minor detail of implementation?

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Hmm..let's see
by May 12, 2005 10:32 PM PDT
Well, I certainly would not be able to see how much money you have in your bank account just from looking at a tatoo. That is, unless your an idiot and tatoo your bank account # on your arm.

Need more?
Mark of The Beast? The "Chip"?
by bunnyman October 15, 2004 7:33 PM PDT
The Bible CLEARLY states that there will come a time when people will be required to take the "Mark of the Beast" in their hand, (Arm is hand!)or their head. Anyone not taking the "Mark" will not be able to buy food, etc, etc. This chip technology is the "Tip of the Iceberg" Per Se. I will certainly die before I let anyone put a chip in me, anywhere. Just My thoughts on this matter, for what they're worth. P.S. Religious matters aside, this opens up a whole new way for "Big Brother" to further invade our privacy!

The Pyramid of Power Revealed
by March 31, 2005 8:28 AM PST
The Military, Big Business, Politics and Media have all being cooperating to bring this one into being smoothly and quietly.

The Carlye group and Citibank Group have secretly masterminded this for awhile and allowed Congress to influence the FDA to approve this to continue their plan for total economic domination and control of world economy. This is modern day slavery engineered by corporate psychopaths.

For more info on the Carlye group and why we are heading into this apocalypse: http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article3995.htm

Watch out for that Atlantic tsunami engineered by the Pentagon. This is Black magik at its finest.

Why were Bush Senior, Carlye Executives and Bin Laden watching 9/11 in a conference room together? Maybe we should take another look at Enron and see why.

RFID Attack...
by ben332211 April 5, 2005 9:29 PM PDT
The article mentions alarms from being in two places at once... and hackers intercepting signals... why would they need to be so high tech?
'Evil do-ers' could just pop out a knife, cut the rfid tag frum under your flesh, and leave you bleeding to death, while they go and withdraw all your money... no dual signal, nothing clever.

Alternatives
by April 18, 2005 10:01 AM PDT
There are a wide array of possible alternatives.A tight fitting bracelate with a chip, can be one alternative.
I beleive that as long as the object can be removed at the discretion of the wearer there should be no reason to have any privacy concerns.
My question is this: Why are the companies advocating implants before (,even tight fitting) wearables. It seems to me that 'wearables' can serve the same helpful purposes as the implants.

Why develop technology that the world's dictators are most definitly use against humanity??
I think its a utter travesty.

Setting the Foundation
by May 12, 2005 9:28 AM PDT
I certainly believe that implant technology and the popular verses quoted in the book of Revelations go hand-in-hand...heh, no pun intended. Laws such as "Real ID" help set the foundation for terrible ideas like implanting ID tags in people's bodies and tracking even the most mundane day-to-day activities. I seriously doubt there will be a massive mandatory issue of these implants like the Real ID (they'll more than likely be implanted at birth and/or ID issuance and renewal). I think other things in the world must take place first.

First of all, the public will have to become much more accustomed to the idea of implants being "freindly" and "for our safety." This isn't going to happen anytime soon. Probably at least a couple of decades away. Another thing that will certainly have to happen is that the entire world will have to belong to a single government (a "One World Government"). Afterall, the anti-christ will want to control more than the U.S.

So, keep a watchful eye on world events that make progress toward these events. I fear a foundation has already been layed...and once ever man and woman on earth are accounted for, the anti-christ will make himself known and he will take hold and use all these "wonderful" laws and technologies to his benefit. We must be pro-active and anticipate these terrible end reults in order to avoid them!

It's stupid. Just another way the govt. can control us. STUPID
by May 18, 2005 7:04 AM PDT
No one should do it. It's not cool. Control is something everyone wants wether they admit it or not. Some control is at a higher level than others, but this is just stupid.

Now Let's Be Frank!!!
by alawana May 23, 2005 11:11 PM PDT
Our world has a tendency towards the state of entropy. No matter how organized you try to get there is always some kind of disorder that enters into your Life. Whether it be a defect in cleanliness as dust would be or it be a defect in being sanitary as dirt would be or it be an order which is disturbed by movement or collision or if it is a meeting of minds that don't see eye to eye with discussion falling into bickering and so forth. Now with radio tags I know many ways you can hack them into a state of chaotic signals where there would be fallacious states brought about. Which brings us back to the beginning as the world tends to the state of entropy no matter what you do.

One thing that reassures our existence is the prevalence of the condition we all experience that gives us security and that is the arrival of being within the steady state.

We must be aware of that so we can tend towards that in order for the tendency towards entropy to be thwarted for at least a temporary time period.

Now Lets Be Frank Part Two
by alawana May 23, 2005 11:28 PM PDT
Now let us move forward to idealism. Can we have human relations without being concerned about disease, can we be within a big crowd without having to worry about transmissions of micro-organisms, can we be traveling without moving our gene flow as to spread disease around, can we be in the employment sector without worrying about the fragmentation of communicaiton around the organizaiton, can we operate any computer system without any concerns of less of perfection going on within the individual computers, classified networks , and networks to routers? Where does the future of high distance wireless take us and last but not least the ordering of the world population by conjectured outcomes. The vastness of the universe lately with the auctioning off of many parts of the electromagnetic spectrum that involves our everyday Lives' will only be tried and then experimented with over and over again by the powers to be which are not fully in the know of what the consequences are and all events that are transpiring within a given set of actions.
