Why is it?

Why is it that when a company says they are going to ship PCs with one operating system, the press seems to think it means they won't continue to ship other operating systems?

When people see me using a Mac they ask if I know how to use Windows, when they see me using Windows, they ask if I can use a Mac?

Where did that concept come from?

As a mass maker of PCs, of course Lenovo will sign a volume purchase contract with Microsoft. It doesn't in any way imply that they won't ship computers with other operating systems.

This isn't the mid 1990s, when companies could get better deals if they excluded other operating systems. The DOJ already ruled that the practice of exclusion is illegal.

Lenovo, like HP, or Dell, has a huge market, so they very well need to create different configurations, in hardware and OS, the meet the different needs of a diversified customer base.

If companies were allowed to make these better deals, Windows customers would profit. ?Government regulations, makes things worse, as usual, for the common man?

Here's a list of companies selling computer preinstalled with Linux.

http://lxer.com/module/forums/t/23168/

Note that Lenovo is NOT on the list.

Lenovo made it "clear"
that they DO NOT preinstall Linux.

In other words Lenovo is still Microsoft's lap dog.
