HP, DELL, Lenovo, Toshiba,,,none of the notebook, laptop makers make their own batteries,,,if HP has this problem, there will be announcements from the others soon...DELL had a gigantic recall a couple of years ago....it's like being mad at subaru for a bad tire....

This is true. It will probably turn out to be from a cut-rate supplier in China. Companies like HP should do their own testing on supplier's components though, and not just trust the supplier's specs.

Gahhh! They are DOOMED!!

With this, the last straw, they will soon be shutting their doors forever. This beleaguered, maligned company, struggling for years against slipping marketing share, poor management and poor public acceptance will soon be going out of business!!

Oh, wait - we're **not** talking about Apple.

Never mind. Darn, I **do** just so love yet another death-knell story.

All those poor "artists" are now going to catch on fire after MS pays for their PC laptops?
Say it isn't sooooo!

I don't think any of the laptop manufacturers have escaped this issue. It's unfortunate, but at least they all acknowledge the problem and correct it. I just hope there is increased scrutiny by all concerned over the reliability of the lithium-ion batteries being produced since this began.

Those organizations that have already invested in an effective company-wide asset Discovery tool will be less concerned by this recall than managers in organizations where they have no accurate or up-to-date hardware inventory.

Imagine you're an IT manager with 5,000 PCs spread across 25 sites in the US - identifying the 50-100 HP / Compaq laptops you need to get batteries out of could be a real headache. But not so if you can tell at a glance exactly what hardware is on the corporate network, who's operating it and where it is located.

Automated Discovery isn't just for asset management, it can also help with crisis management!

I have a DV9000, which according to HP is not one that is affected after supplying SN, Battery SN etc.

However, I reported to HP Customer services UK in 2008...that I'd been burnt by the battery....still have the scar today...is there anything I can do?

That is a good news for my Dell Latitude D620 battery, because I bought my laptop 3 month ago and the battery is always hot when it is in using. Since it can be recalled, where can I send it to?
