Amazon about to start a new Fire

Looks like a new Kindle is on the way. Amazon's making an announcement on Sept. 6 in Santa Monica. We're expecting to hear about a new Kindle Fire with a camera and volume-control buttons, and it could have an improved display.

But be prepared for a rush of new gadget news over the next two weeks. When iPhone season nears, every device maker wants to get their news out before the iPhone steals all media glory. Here's a quick list of what's coming up:

• Aug. 29: Samsung will likely show off the Galaxy Note II smartphone in Berlin. Also that day, Sony is talking TVs and tablets at an event in New York.
• Sept. 5: New Windows phones will be announced at a Nokia event, followed by a Motorola and Verizon event that evening. We're expecting to hear about the Droid Razr HD.
• Sept. 12: The rumored date of when Apple will announce the next iPhone.
• Sept. 13: Nintendo is having an event to discuss the Wii U. We'll likely hear more about price and availability.

Kodak is auctioning off its traditional film business. Since filing Chapter 11, it'll be selling all things related to developing photos to restructure.

Amazon Prime subscribers will have more Instant Video choices, including shows "Parks and Recreation," "Heroes" and "Battlestar Galactica."

Time to update your Facebook apps. The iOS app now loads information faster and has a few more photo viewing options. Android users can now create events from the app, upload photos faster and add photos to messages.

There's also a new TV Guide app for Apple devices that aims to be a guide for both cable subscribers and for those that cut the cord. If you search for a show, you'll see every instance of that show in TV listings, streaming services and if it's available on-demand from cable. It doesn't search through Netflix and Amazon Instant Video, but more services will be added in the coming weeks.
