I rarely get jealous of other technology journalists but--for right now at least--CNET senior writer Ina Fried has the best job around. She's in Vancouver, B.C., covering the Winter Olympics for CNET.

Ina has been writing stories about the technology employed in running and covering the Olympics and getting to explore her passion for sports by covering some of the events.

And there is plenty for her to cover. "The Winter Olympics is the biggest sports story going and is also a general news story," she said "but it's also a really great technology story. The days where somebody sits at the top with a stopwatch and a skier grabs some off-the-shelf skis and skis down the mountain are long gone. You have super high-tech timing with sensors, and light beams, and GPS tracking the athletes." The athletes themselves, she added, "are testing hundreds of different combinations of the right skis and waxes and grinds to make sure they have the best run, plus you have a huge amount of computers to pull this off ."

Her biggest problem, she said, "is too many technology stories at the moment."
