Yahoo Mail outages plague some users

Yahoo Mail users reported problems Monday morning, with the service inaccessible for some and spotty for others.

TechCrunch noticed a Twitter spike in reports of problems with Yahoo Mail, and another company called Downrightnow also reported problems accessing the service over the last several hours. Several CNET employees reported that they could access their in-boxes, but mine is unavailable. Yahoo Messenger and Yahoo's home page appeared to be working fine.

Please let us know if you're having trouble in the comments below, and we'll update this post with more information as we go.

Yahoo Mail is the most widely used Web e-mail service in the world by a wide margin, with over 100 million unique users in July, according to ComScore. Gmail, Google's Web e-mail service, is growing fast as the third most-popular e-mail service behind Microsoft's Hotmail but has suffered a few high-profile outages this year.

Update at 8:58 a.m. PDT: Yahoo released a statement confirming the problems but downplayed the breadth. "A small fraction of Yahoo Mail users are experiencing intermittent email issues today, October 26. We are actively working to resolve the issue and apologize for any inconvenience this causes."

Update at 9:50 a.m. PDT: Yahoo said the outage had been resolved, but did not provide further details on what went wrong. My inbox is back up and running.

Mine went down around 8:30 am EDT. Occasionally I get the interface, but messages won't load and then the page locks up. <sigh> really needed it this morning. But then again....it is free.

I'm in Richardson, Texas 75081. My Yahoo home page is OK, but I haven't been able to access on Yahoo email account(s) since Saturday Oct 24. When I try to logon to my Yahoo email it give me the general internet diagnonsis screen. Yet, I can get to all other non-Yahoo sites and email.

I can't get into my Yahoo Mail through the Internet, but I can access it from my iPhone. Is it strange that the POP3 works but not their website?

Plus, my wife is able to access her account so it is not system-wide.

In any case, it is frustrating since Yahoo Mail is my mail client.

get gmail... Google talked about their servers having all this backup stuff so they essentially can't go down without the building crashing down on the servers

I am unable to access my inbox as well. I was able to earlier this morning, but now I get a message saying the link is broken. VERY frustrating. What does Yahoo consider a "small fraction" of yahoo users?

Can't get into my yahoo email.

Severlely screwing with my ability to do my work, and as an independent contractor, this is going to cost me money.

Isn't Yahoo mail free to you? Personally, if it were up to me I would never run my business on a free email service.

You get what you pay for, and in this case nothing... so you can't hold Yahoo accountable for your lost in time and money.

So far no problems today - so far. My email was down for a couple of hours Saturday because of yahoo issues. I have two yahoo addresses and both were down. One is a free account and the other is yahoo plus..

If you really really need to login you can use the mobile site on your browser. Just go to m.yahoo.com/mail and it still works.

I use my Yahoo account so seldom, I never even noticed it. I can't say that I have been "plauged" by this.

It was down for me all morning. I could get to the login page but then nothing after. I was able to get in about an hour ago, but I could only see the message list and got an error trying to access any messages.

I can get in fine now...

Have been locked out from 9:30 through the present moment (12:30pm), here in Tampa, FL. I can, however, access my messages on my cell phone.

Mine was fine last night at 11:30. No access this morning on a few different computers through different networks and service providers. XP machines, IE 6 and 7 Firefox 3.5.3 and Chrome. Tell us the truth Yahoo, or the bad publicity backlash on the whitewash is bound to be worse.

Use Mozilla's Firefox of Google's Chrome internet browser to log into Yahoo mail.

Currently, Yahoo's email is not working with Internet Explorer, but is working with the browsers listed above. More evidence that companies should NOT join with Microsoft to become part of Microsoft's pattern of poor quality and stability.

my mail was working this a.m., but by the time I got to the office, it was down.

On a whim, I changed the "4" in "us.mg4.mail.yahoo.com" to "3", and voila, I've got mail.
